Job overview

London or Midlands based - with regular travel in the Midlands and East Anglia

Creative Education Trust is a leading national multi-academy trust. Its work is focussed on improving standards of education and life chances for young people in challenged communities in the Midlands and on the East Coast.

Our unique Knowledge Connected programme, which is woven through the curriculum, aims to prepare young people creatively for the challenges of the 21st century, while our rich cross-trust co-curricular programmes are designed to build cultural capital and foster self-confidence.

Our long-serving and highly successful Director of Education plans to retire at the end of this academic year. An exciting opportunity now arises for an experienced and inspirational school improver to head up our central education team and work with our school leaders to take Creative Education Trust schools on the next stage of their journey to excellence.

Our education team has an impressive record of working with school leaders to take schools in challenging circumstances from Grade 4 to Grade 2. All but our newest joiners are now rated Ofsted ‘Good’ (some with outstanding features). We want to leverage our long-standing commitment to curricular innovation and the development of cultural capital to continue to build our network of successful schools under the new inspection framework. Our ambition is to enable our pupils to reach the highest levels of academic achievement and to prepare them for fulfilling lives.

We seek an energetic, imaginative and experienced school improvement professional to lead our education team and to work with the Chief Executive and senior colleagues on the evolution and implementation of our education strategy.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate an outstanding record of practical school improvement, an ability to combine clear strategic thinking with effective implementation, a deep understanding of the national school accountability regime, and an astute approach to curriculum-led financial planning. In addition, the successful candidate will be a motivational leader with exceptional communication skills and the ability to inspire colleagues to achieve their best.

About Creative Education Trust

Creative Education Trust was established in 2010 to work in England’s post-industrial and coastal towns and cities. We are now a network of 17 schools educating 14,500 children and young people.

We have chosen to work with schools in challenging circumstances. We have successfully transformed schools previously deemed to be inadequate into good ones in order that all our students can have the best start in life. We are committed to providing educational opportunity for children of all abilities and to building cultural capital through a wide range of co-curricular activities.

Curricular innovation through our Knowledge Connected programme promotes creative, integrated and pro-active thinking so that our students are equipped for the challenges of the 21st century.
