Job overview

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND OPERATIONS

Rickmansworth

Attractive package, including fee remission

Start date – no later than Easter 2020.

RMS is a leading independent girls’ day/boarding School with 1000+ day and boarding pupils aged 2 to 18, over 300 teaching and support staff and situated on a 200-acre parkland site near Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire. This is a unique school where they combine dynamic teaching and learning with traditional expectations that are rooted in a long and proud history.  RMS is committed to educating young women to be creative, enthusiastic and generous contributors to an ever-changing world.

RMS for Girls seeks to appoint a Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) on the retirement of their current Bursar.  The Board and Headmaster wish to attract candidates who will be able to contribute to strategy development, financial oversight and the effective running of this £16m turnover school. As DFO, you will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team and provide specific leadership on all non-teaching related aspects of the School, with Compliance, Estates, Finance, H&S, HR, IT and Operations reporting to you. It is also anticipated, in due course, that the DFO will assume clerking responsibilities in support of the effective working of the Board.

Candidates need to demonstrate strong financial capabilities, have experience of multi-functional teams and be a strong team player.  The school is poised to move into a new phase of its existence, so experience of managing change will be important.  It is also critical that the person is commercially minded and can contribute to a process of future-proofing the School in the face of growing cost pressures in the sector.  RMS is welcoming, supportive and vibrant, and it will be key that this person enjoys working in close-knit communities and is motivated by the idea of working in an environment where the girls’ education, wellbeing and development is at the heart of all that is done.

Potential candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the school website, www.rmsforgirls.org.uk  and social media accounts for more information about the thriving school, and its exceptionally rich curriculum and inclusive community spirit.

Headmaster

Kevin Carson

Values and vision

The Royal Masonic School sets very high standards for the academic progress of its pupils. It offers an engaging and vibrant curriculum, with a number of modern teaching facilities to help its pupils reach their full potential.

Aside from academic success, the school also highly values emotional and social intelligence, with girls being encouraged to steer their own learning and become independent and self-motivated.

ISI report

“Sharply focused assessments by experienced staff ensure that the next steps are suitably challenging for every child. A careful balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities enables most children to reach or exceed their expected levels in the seven areas of learning. Daily opportunities for outdoor learning in all of these areas are limited in the classes without immediate access to outside facilities.”
