Dunstone Education Trust was incorporated in 2019 and is the sponsor of Fulwood Academy. 

Fulwood Academy, Preston, was established in September 2009 in response to the challenges faced by the predecessor school. The school has the potential to educate approximately 1000 students varying from age 11 to 16. Fulwood Academy, have exceptional teaching facilities in a £23m building which opened in September 2012.

The Director of Finance and Operations

This post offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic professional to join our growing multi-academy trust. The Director of Finance and Operations will provide leadership and management of all aspects of finance, as well as contributing to the strategic direction of the Trust. All the work of the Director of Finance  and Operations will be rooted in ensuring benefit to the pupils the Trust serves. The overall objective is to ensure the MAT delivers on its commitment to providing our students with an outstanding environment for personal development and educational support.

As a key member of the Executive Team, the Director of Finance and Operations will play an important part in setting the direction of strategic development. This will include regular reporting to the Trust Board and the production of high-quality reports to enable them to make informed decisions. The Director of Finance and Operations will keep ahead of funding and legislative changes that apply to the education sector and will provide the Board of Trustees with strategic financial information to enable them to make informed financial decisions.

In the current financial climate supporting schools to maximise income generation will be an important part of the role. The Director of Finance and Operations will visit schools within the Trust to develop a good working knowledge of those schools. They will ensure good use of resources by utilising and developing capacity from within the Trust and contracting from outside the Trust where this is not available. 

In all their work the Director of Finance and Operations will recognise that their prime responsibility is to the children and families that the Trust serves.

Fulwood Academy opened on 1st September 2009 replacing Fulwood High School and Arts College, an established and successful 11-16 Secondary School situated in North Preston. In June 2023 Ofsted rated Fulwood Academy as "Good" in all areas, in the report they said:

  • Leaders have established an inclusive culture at the school where every pupil is valued.
  • Pupils are calm, polite and they benefit from the positive relationships that they have with staff. 
  • Staff value the support they receive from leaders. They are proud to be part of the school.


The Academy’s sponsor is Charles Dunstone, founder of Carphone Warehouse. His support for the Academy will ensure that pupils and staff benefit from ‘cutting edge’ technology to support learning. His vision for the Academy is outlined in the enclosed prospectus and documentation.
