About the role:  Strood Academy have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Director of Learning for Humanities to join and lead their well established faculty. We are seeking to appoint an individual who can build rapport with our students and engage them in the subject as well as leading and inspiring an established and collaborative team.  This is a brand new role for Strood Academy, created to work with the Faculty Leader to further develop the department in the Academy's drive towards Outstanding. The role is ideal for a candidate currently in a middle leadership position seeking progression and further responsibility.  We welcome interested candidates to consult the Job Description and Person Specification.  Please note that our successful candidate will be a Geography specialist, and we can offer whole-school responsibility dependent on prior experience and key interests of the appointee.

Working for Strood Academy:  Since opening in 2009, our academy has transformed the educational opportunities and outcomes for girls and boys in Strood. The improvement in academic performance has been driven by a talented and committed workforce, the hard work of our students, and support from parents and our community.  Our new buildings in Carnation Road were designed in partnership with Nicholas Hare and built by BAM as our main contractor at a cost of £26m. They opened in September 2012 and have outstanding learning environments and outside play areas as well as fantastic sports facilities. The buildings reflect our education vision of creating a mature and purposeful educational environment where children of all abilities can learn and thrive.

Our core values are creativity, collaboration, distinctiveness, respect and sustainability which are embedded and evident in all of our activities.  We have a growing roll call of 1400 children, including 200 in Sixth Form. Working in our Academy takes a lot of dedication and hard work, but for the right individuals it can be an incredibly rewarding experience and contribute significantly to personal and professional development.  Leigh Academies Trust invite those with the relevant expertise and ambition to join them in supporting a learning institution capable of preparing students for the challenges of the twenty-first century.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  Strood Academy joined Leigh Academies Trust in January 2017 and as a result of this move, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with your peers and share best practice at Academy level and across the whole Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  You will also be expected to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

As part of the 'cluster' structure, all of our academies are grouped together in key geographical area to enable them to be able to support each other and share resources.  It also offers staff access to career opportunities across the Trust allowing them to progress their career without switching employers.  For more information on working for the Trust please visit our careers pages.

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust, we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.
