Job overview

Strong Communities with a Bright Future.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council continues to build on its status as being the best performing local authority in Wales with an ever increasing reputation for excellent educational achievement.

We are seeking to appoint an aspirational, experienced and innovative leader who will build on our success and help us become the number one Education authority in Wales and to benchmark against the most successful authorities in England. Our key objective is to continue to raise standards of educational achievement, optimise life-long learning opportunities for all of our residents and continue to build strong and proud communities with a bright future.

You will be joining an authority that has delivered an impressive portfolio of new schools as part of the 21st Century Schools programme, including state of the art facilities at Penarth Learning Community, Cowbridge Comprehensive, Ysgol Y Ddraig and Oakfield School with other projects under development. In the wider community, we have transformed Barry Library to become a focal point for lifelong learning.

The post is not without challenges and you will need to deliver services in the context of financial constraints and efficiencies required as part of the Council’s wider transformation agenda. You will however be assisted by a supportive, motivated team of people who really care about service provision for our residents. In the statutory role as Chief Education Officer you will be well placed to build on our excellent relationships with learners, providers and wider stakeholders.

To drive our ambitious plans forward you will need commitment, proven leadership experience and a successful track record in change management and service transformation along with an understanding of the key challenges within education, life-long learning and skills development in Wales. In addition, you’ll also be an excellent communicator, adept at building relationships and have had demonstrable success at collaborative working.
