Job overview

About the role: Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy has a rare and truly exciting opportunity to appoint an exceptional candidate to join and lead our English Faculty for September 2019.  The academy has been part of the Leigh Academies Trust since September 2014 and is one of the most over-subscribed schools in South East London.

We are looking to appoint an outstanding English specialist taking on the role of Director of Learning for English who will join a team of subject advisors. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating standards and developing improvement strategy and supporting individuals and teams. The successful candidate will also be responsible for cross-academy literacy and will be a member of the Academy Executive Team.  You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the whole academy strategic and operational initiatives through membership of the Academy Executive Team.

This is a great opportunity to join one of the largest and most popular schools in Greenwich and we would welcome hearing from candidates who are currently in Head of Department positions and are seeking/ready for promotion. This is a challenging but hugely satisfying position offering a whole school leadership opportunity.  This position is based on the Leadership payscale and the salary offered will be commensurate with experience.

Working at Stationers' Crown Woods Academy:  Our academy is based on the principles of ‘Human Scale Education’. We believe that pupils learn better in smaller schools, where the curriculum can be more effectively personalised and individual needs met. The academy comprises of four ‘home schools’. Three are for pupils aged between 11 and 16 and the fourth is our post 16 school. Each school has a total roll of 450 pupils, its own Head and team of staff. Pupils are allocated to one of the three schools based on aptitude, ability, skills and interests. Our curriculum is diverse and allows for an accelerated curriculum and early examination entry, a very broad range of courses and a focus on core subjects of English, Maths, Sciences, Humanities and Languages, as well as a high quality vocational offer which includes Digital Media Technology, construction, health and social care, sport and business. Our objective is that every pupil should make outstanding progress in subjects that suit them, that they enjoy and that will challenge them. The small school model allows for much greater support and challenge as every teacher knows every pupil and personally cares about their achievements.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  As of 1st January 2019, our Trust is comprised of 23 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 11 primaries and 1 special) educating over 15,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff.  We also have three further academies in development phase, due to open in September 2020.  The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

We strive to offer a range of benefits that all employees can take advantage of which we regularly review and add to - click here to view what you’d receive as a member of staff with Leigh Academies Trust.

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust, we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.
