Job overview

Westminster Academy specialises in International Business and Enterprise. It serves a multi-ethnic community in Central London, and at the heart of our approach is the personalised curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile.

At Westminster Academy we believe that education is success. By providing all of our students with a world class education, we prepare them to be competitive on the international stage. We strive to be the best in every field, as is demonstrated in achieving our ‘Outstanding’ status. As a member of staff at a fast paced, forward thinking organisation, you will genuinely be changing lives.

We are looking to recruit an outstanding, organised and innovative curriculum leader to join and lead a dedicated and successful Enterprise department. The department is responsible for teaching Business, Economics, Media, Computer Science, ICT and Travel and Tourism. As an International Business and Enterprise Academy, these subjects are a key part of the school’s identity, and the Enterprise Department enjoys a high profile within the Academy.

Unlike other schools, we introduce all students to Enterprise in Key Stage 3, with all students studying both Enterprise and Computer Science; all students receive a Chromebook in Year 7, allowing for exciting, dynamic teaching and learning from the first lesson. At Key Stage Four, we offer Business, Media, Computer Science, ICT and Travel and Tourism, with a mixture of GCSE and BTEC courses. The department has consistently achieved outstanding results and in 2016 it was ranked in the top percentile in terms of value added nationally. In the Sixth Form, Enterprise subjects are particularly popular; we offer BTEC Extended Diplomas in Media and Business as part of the IB Career-related Programme, while Economics, Film and Business and Management are all popular courses on the IB Diploma Programme.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, highly motivated and an excellent classroom practitioner who is committed to student success and development; As Director of Learning you will be overseeing all areas of the Enterprise curriculum and progress of its students. Experience of planning and delivering BTEC courses is desirable, as the role includes acting as BTEC Quality Nominee. The ideal candidate should be aware of the changes facing the subject area nationally and be able to implement new courses accordingly. The willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities is also essential. Most importantly, the role provides a real opportunity to lead a team that is making a difference.

What we offer:

● an innovative educational concept

● an excellent programme of continuing professional development

● the opportunity to develop personally and professionally

● the chance to shape the future of the subject and lead a high performing team
