We are seeking to appoint an experienced, dynamic and charismatic candidate to lead the learning of one of our year groups.  The Directors of Learning form the core of a high profile and influential pastoral team.  Directors of Learning are supported by Student Managers and have administrative support.

The successful applicant will:

• be responsible for the academic and pastoral care of their cohort of students

• have the skills necessary to inspire and lead a large cohort of students and tutors

• contribute significantly to the high standards of behaviour and safety at HRS

• be an excellent classroom practitioner who has the ability to apply a wide range of pedagogical strategies to maximise the learning opportunities in their classes.

The ideal candidate will be a well-qualified, innovative and talented person. They will be an excellent practitioner with a well-developed set of strategies for challenging and inspiring pupils. They will also be able to demonstrate the ability to multi-task, to work effectively with students, parents/carers and staff, and to represent the school in a range of events and meetings.

We are a mixed 4 – 18 Academy with over 1200 pupils on roll. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow.

The school was established in 1958 and is named in honour of the first Chair of Governors.

At Helena Romanes, we are ambitious for our pupils and we offer them a rich and varied curriculum. Our pupils develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to move successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, training or employment.

While academic achievement is of crucial importance, we also ensure that we focus effectively on developing our pupils’ personal, social and creative skills. Our aim is that pupils leave Helena Romanes as successful, confident and considerate young adults.

We are very proud of our pupils. They are superb ambassadors for our school when they represent us locally, nationally and internationally, participating in our many and varied extra-curricular activities.
