Job overview

Thank you for your interest in Taunton Preparatory School and this role.

At Taunton School we are passionate about making a difference to the lives of our children. They are at the heart of everything we do and we strive to inspire our learners and change their lives, as a result of our vibrant and personalised educational provision. We want our school to be the best it can be and for each child to discover the skills, abilities, talents and interests that lie within them.

Following the retirement of our long-standing Head of Performing Arts, we are now seeking to appoint an engaging, committed and inspirational Director to join our team as we grow and expand our Performing Arts provision across the School. The Director will lead the performing arts team, working strategically and commercially to develop and produce an outstanding performing arts programme.

You will be responsible for promoting high participation levels of Music, Drama and Dance outside of the curriculum and to contribute co-curricular enrichment activities to the school, running various ensembles. You will have the ability to lead annual productions with different year groups and to organise regular showcases of students’ achievement in Music, Drama and Dance within the parameters of the curriculum budget.

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to showcase their unwavering passion for teaching the curriculum in an inspiring way to ignite our students’ passion for the subject, and to help students to achieve success in their exams and in their future lives. We are interested in hearing from candidates who are dynamic, enthusiastic and driven with high expectations of yourself and others. You will also be an exceptional musician who is dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome for each child.

Please do refer to the job description and person specification available online to find out more about the role.

We look forward to receiving your application.

About Taunton Preparatory School

TPS is situated in its own grounds but is adjacent to the Pre-Prep and the Senior School creating a unique sense of family, community and providing access to outstanding shared facilities.

At TPS we are passionate about a holistic education. We believe that an on-going commitment to breadth creates a life-long love of learning and prepares children to take their place in the world as responsible, caring adults who will demonstrate kindness to others. Academically, we combine modern teaching methods with the best of traditional values to create a climate where every child can flourish, and find where their particular talents lie. We are ambitious for all our children, unearthing potential and celebrating success in all its forms.

We aim to support and challenge our children. We recognise that children need to be guided but also given the freedom to think for themselves and to develop a true sense of self. Individual achievements, and the importance of team efforts, are both highly valued. Wrapped around this is the welcoming and friendly atmosphere, and the added buzz created by our thriving boarding house.

All pupils are encouraged to engage in the breadth of what we offer and to achieve their best in academic, sporting, and creative fields, while at the same time developing their interpersonal skills:  a respect for each other and those around them, kindness, and a willingness to participate for the benefit of others.
