Job overview

Hallfield School is a flourishing Prep School renowned for the quality of its extended curriculum, successes in Sport, the Arts and Academic Excellence, successfully preparing many of its pupils for entry to the highly selective local schools. One of the largest Prep schools in the country, Hallfield is an excellent co-educational independent day school for 560 boys and girls aged from 2 – 11 years, with a nursery for children aged from 3 months to 2 years old.

Situated in the centre of Edgbaston, close to the University of Birmingham, the school has extensive 20-acre grounds for playing fields with a specialist Music Room, Practice Rooms and access to two School Halls for performance. Music is an important component of the school’s curriculum with one hour lesson a week taught in the specialist Music Room in both Key Stages 1 & 2. In EYFS, Music is taught in the form rooms by the Pre-Prep Music Teacher.

The school has a growing reputation for musical prowess in a variety of activities fitting for a school such as Hallfield.

The position of Director of Music is a new position which has arisen from the retirement of the current Head of Key Stage 2 Music. We are now seeking to appoint a person who is passionate, and who will stretch and challenge our most able musicians whilst ensuring the importance of musical enjoyment for all. We are looking for someone who has an innovative outlook and a commitment to the role, who has a clear ambition and enthusiasm for Music, and will be fully involved in the life of the school.

This is an excellent time to join Hallfield at an exciting stage in its development. A new Headmaster has been appointed to start in September 2018. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate who will be empowered to review, reform and lead Music provision across the whole school; including working on the development of a new Creative Arts Centre in the near future.
