Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational musician and educationalist to lead this exceptional department at Bryanston. The ideal candidate will have the energy, experience and vision to build on the outstanding musical tradition of excellence and accomplishment.

The Tom Wheare Music School, opened in 2014, offers pupils a wonderful inclusive environment in which to explore and develop their musical aspirations, with architecturally celebrated performance spaces, recording studios, rehearsal and teaching rooms which is run by a large team of dedicated and highly regarded musicians.

In addition to offering Music A level and GCSE, Bryanston also offers the International Baccalaureate, and a knowledge of these qualifications and experience of teaching each to the highest level, would be desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Music across the age and ability range at secondary level alongside conducting a variety of musical ensembles and managing a team currently standing at 57 staff.

The successful candidate will enjoy an exceptional working environment and a competitive salary. Family-sized accommodation is offered with this post.

About Bryanston School

Bryanston is an independent boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18, set in a beautiful 400-acre site near Blandford Forum in Dorset. It includes Bryanston Prep School, a co-educational day and boarding prep school in the neighbouring village of Durweston.

Founded in 1928, the school aims above all to develop the all-round talents of individual pupils. A broad, flexible academic and extra-curricular programme is offered and each pupil benefits from considerable one-to-one help and guidance from a personal tutor, subject teachers and housemaster/housemistress. Bryanston aims to combine the best of the new and the old, as befits the school motto et nova et vetera.
