We are looking for an ambitious and passionate Director of Music who will be responsible for the strategic development of the department and quality of provision and performance of the co-curricular programme. Close liaison with Prep School Director of Music is essential, as is the willingness to oversee and ensure that the school can offer a wide range of public performances and maintain excellence in singing with regard to choirs and Chapel Services. The Director of Music will be expected to be able to teach academic Music up to A Level and IB while promoting a broad range of ensembles, lead rehearsals, and create a wide-ranging engagement with Music throughout the school, and beyond.

Outreach should include strengthening the exciting partnership with the Junior Guildhall, promoting Felsted Music to a range of feeder schools, and seeking ways to make music available to other local schools that do not have the same opportunities as pupils at Felsted.

The successful applicant will need to lead and line manage the Music teaching staff, Peripatetic Music Staff and Music Operational staff. This vital role will be responsible for promoting, supporting and tracking pupils’ development in music, overseeing Music tours and performances, mentoring and reviewing Music Scholars to ensure they have appropriate development opportunities during their time at Felsted and examination entries, including ABRSM exams, and vocal and instrumental lessons.

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic individual, preferably with prior head of department experience, to continue the excellent work of our Music School, including the promotion of Music through trips, tours and opportunities beyond the curriculum as well as performances and productions performed at the school. This is a significant role at Felsted, which will provide the opportunity for the right person to showcase their leadership skills within a growing business and in return, provide an opportunity to enhance their career within a prestigious environment.

A desire to fully contribute to all aspects of the school is a must in this ‘Excellent in every aspect' Independent Schools Inspectorate rated school. Felsted School has its own salary scale which compares favourably against other independent schools and is well above that of the maintained sector.

Felsted is a leading day and boarding independent school based in a stunning village campus in North Essex. Founded in 1564 by Richard Lord Riche, who had been a Lord Chancellor under King Edward VI, Felsted today provides an exceptional holistic education to approximately 1100 boys and girls aged four to eighteen. We celebrated our 450th anniversary in 2014, one of only a handful of schools in the country that have claimed this historic milestone. We employ more than 160 teachers and 440 operational staff in a community orientated environment, ensuring our pupils receive the very best in learning and co-curricular activities.

Closing date for receipt of applications is Wednesday 22 January 2020 at 12:00 noon. Interviews will be held on Monday 27 January 2020
