The Governors are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and experienced Director of Music at our successful, popular and outstanding school.

Music is one of our most important subjects, with the majority of students in School taking part in musical activities, for example a third of all students performed in this year’s House music competition. It is popular at GCSE and the School is committed to helping small groups at A Level achieve consistently excellent results.

Music competitions and performances attract large audiences and the whole community values the work of the department, which is well resourced and supported. Recent performances of the School Orchestra include complete and unabridged performances of Dvorak’s New World Symphony and Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. More than a dozen other ensembles represent the School including at Jazz competitions, on residential tours and in national singing events.

A large number of students enjoy private music tuition on site which is delivered by both private teachers and Berkshire Maestros and the Music department benefits from a range of technology, practice suites and good-quality instruments.

Reading School is a most successful 11-18 selective boys’ school with a reputation for high standards of behaviour and achievement. Our mission is to develop academic excellence and to build good men, and we consider the values of excellence, integrity, leadership and community to be integral to our sustained success and to our future high performance.
