This is a rare opportunity for an inspirational and ambitious musician to lead, promote and develop music in this large and highly successful school. We seek to build further on the outstanding achievements of the Bennett Music Academy, which include a national profile in school chamber music and a track record of supporting students to studying music in higher education, taking music at this school to an even greater level.

The post is offered as full time, but we are open to discussions with suitable applicants seeking a part time role. A commitment to supporting evening and weekend rehearsals and performances is essential.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Must be a qualified music teacher with suitable experience and leadership capabilities. 

• Must have a track record of success in leading choirs and ensembles to excellent outcomes. 

• Must demonstrate a proactive approach to the importance of safeguarding students involved in music. 

• Must demonstrate an active understanding of the importance of music in the context of Christian worship and an ability to deliver this in practice. 

• Must be able to work creatively and flexibly with other members of the school to communicate and facilitate rehearsal and production of music within the logistical limits of the school’s resources and calendar. 

• Lead the department on curriculum design, content, standards, delivery and assessment. 

• Teach music and performing arts lessons for 30-40% of weekly hours. 

• Participate actively in the school’s professional development programme and disseminate to staff in department. 

• Design, rehearse and produce termly musical events and concerts including one larger scale event annually. 

• Oversee the Bennett Music Academy programme and its participating visiting teachers with the support of a part time PA. 

• Deliver provision of music in daily acts of tutor time worship from within the team and student musicians. 

• Deliver musical support for calendared music events such as the school’s Founders’ Day.
