We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and highly experienced Director of P.E. and Sport to lead our successful Physical Education Department from August 2021.

The P.E Department consists of ten P.E. teachers and a full-time rowing coach.  There are also a large number of sports coaches involved in various sports and extra-curricular activities. In conjunction with the school’s traditional sports, we offer over 30 sports and activities which can be participated in through the curricular and extra-curricular programmes.  

The successful candidate will be required to maintain Heriot’s ‘Sport for All’ ethos and create varied opportunities for pupils of all ages and abilities to participate successfully. The school requires sports staff to have a passion for sporting education and enthusiasm to work with pupils and parents, and to be are actively involved in all areas of academic physical education.

Through strong communication and strategic planning, the Director of Sport will play a vital role in the development of health, wellbeing, participation and competitive success, across the entire School. They will be actively involved in the whole school sports programme each weekend, leading by example and liaising closely with staff, pupils, parents and the management team.

The post holder will also have responsibility for the smooth running of the Physical Education curriculum.  They must keep abreast of developments in teaching and learning to ensure the best possible curriculum is offered to all pupils - Heriot’s offers National 4, National 5 and Higher Physical Education, with National 5 starting for the first time in session 2021/22.
