For twenty-one years, schools across Scotland have trusted SCHOLAR to provide high-quality interactive online learning to enhance classroom practice and support blended and independent learning. Delivered through a not-for-profit partnership between The Association of Directors of Education in Scotland (ADES) and Heriot-Watt University, SCHOLAR’s virtual learning environment has over 168,000 registered users across:

  • 31 local authorities, representing 356 secondary schools and education support units;
  • 5 virtual schools supporting learners unable to attend school in person;
  • 33 independent schools;
  • 10 further education colleges.

SCHOLAR has a well-established reputation as a provider of Career Long Professional Learning, and is responsible for the delivery of the training and professional development programme supporting the Scottish National Standardised Assessments (SNSA).

The critical position of Director of SCHOLAR is offered at a time of significant change and opportunity. The remit is to ensure the continued success of SCHOLAR, and the development of SCHOLAR as a key part of the University’s strategy for 2025. The Director will lead the development of SCHOLAR, manage the excellent team that deliver it, and work with other parts of the University to identify and develop further opportunities. If you have demonstrable experience in provision of on-line teaching materials at senior level, along with excellent leadership and managerial skills and the ability to drive forward change, we would be delighted to hear from you and to receive your application.
