Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Director for Science to start in September 2018. Holy Family is a successful, well-regarded and oversubscribed secondary school. Students achieve very well in the school. In Additional Science at KS4 in 2017, students achieved 83% A*-C grades, with 50% achieving A/A* grades. Additionally, we had excellent success at ‘A’ level across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which contributed to the school’s best ever ‘A’ level outcomes. We also offer level 3 BTEC science which is another popular and successful option. The science department has recently benefitted from the expansion of science labs, including a dedicated sixth form space. Students have access to an extensive extra-curricular programme which all staff are encouraged to participate in. Holy Family is a very friendly and supportive Catholic school with an inclusive ethos. Every member of the teaching staff is provided with an iPad to support and enhance teaching and learning. In 2014 Ofsted described us as a good school “in which students display high levels of commitment and positive attitudes to learning and to doing well”. We were awarded Gold Investors in People (IiP) in March 2016 and the school has an excellent programme of professional and career development

Holy Family Catholic School is committed to equal opportunities and benefits from having a diverse staff and student community and applications from all are welcome

Ofsted

We were delighted that our latest Ofsted report (March 2023) reflects the school's vision and ethos. Inspectors noted the strong teaching, positive relationships and opportunities for spiritual and cultural development as well as our commitment to ensuring that all achieve to be the best they can be. Some of their comments are below:

“Staff are proud to work at the school. They feel well looked after because leaders are considerate of their workload.”

“Pupils said they enjoy the strong friendships they build here. The school is welcoming and like a family. Pupils appreciate the supportive staff who push them to go the extra mile in their work. They are safe and happy at school. Staff have high expectations of pupils’ work and behaviour and leaders have clear aspirations for pupils to succeed.”

"Behaviour is positive in lessons and around the school."
