St Helen’s is looking to appoint a permanent Full Time Director of Sport, to lead a strong team, starting September 2024 or January 2025.

CORE PURPOSE:

To play a key role, working with the Headmistress, Senior Leadership Team, and Department in establishing, leading, managing and regularly reviewing the strategic direction and development of Sport at St Helen’s School. To be responsible for the maintenance and development of excellence in Sport across the School and to establish a programme of Sport that offers all students the ability to participate. 

Department details, a full list of responsibilities and person specification can be found on the attached ‘applicant information pack’. However, the successful applicant must have:

·        A good honours degree (or higher) in a relevant or associated subject.

·        Has Qualified Teacher Status.

·        Experience of teaching GCSE and A Level Physical Education.

·        Excellent administration, organisation, and management skills.

·        Clear commitment to the safeguarding of students.

·        Effective classroom management skills.

·        Thorough knowledge of subject.

·        Appropriate level of oral and written communication skills.

·        A passion and enthusiasm for sport and Physical Education as a subject.

·        Ability to motivate and manage a large team of staff.

·        Ability to communicate and inspire young people.

·        An energetic and commitment individual with a clear vision.

·        The ability to work under pressure.

·        Adaptability and a willingness to embrace change.

·        A good sense of humour.

·        A commitment to further professional development

·        Detailed understanding of current developments in the secondary curriculum and assessment

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the school where they will be interviewed, be observed teaching a lesson, and have a tour of the school. During the selection day they will meet members of the Executive team and/or SLT, the Heads of Curriculum PE and Co-Curricular Sport as well as the wider team.
