PERSON SPECIFICATION 

The Head Master seeks to appoint an outstanding applicant as Director of Sport who will report to the Heads of School. The successful candidate will have overall strategic responsibility for Physical Education and Sport across the College.  S/he should be an adaptable and innovative leader; a good motivator, communicator and administrator, and capable of managing key aspects of an expanding and high-profile British-International school.  S/he should be able to provide professional leadership and guidance for academic and pastoral matters to enable the effective development of the Physical Education and Sporting aspects of the College.

Qualifications and Experience

●A good UK Honours Degree (or equivalent)

●A certified teaching qualification

●A distinguished record of teaching A-level and GCSE PE

●A strong record of professional development

●Proven Leadership experience

●A strong understanding of all aspects of school sport

●At least six years’ teaching experience

Duties and Responsibilities

●To be an ambassador of the College at all times, in school and within the UAE

●To lead by example in all areas of school life and to be a powerful role model for colleagues, as an outstanding practitioner

●To teach a timetable commensurate with the position, carry out duties as required and to actively support the Sport CCA Programme

●To meet all additional teaching and pastoral responsibilities, as outlined in the standard Teacher’s job description

●To carry out reasonable professional requests made by the Head Master or Head of School

Leadership Responsibilities

●To create and develop a positive team atmosphere

●Promote the College through Physical Education and Sport working closely with the college’s marketing department

●Adopt overall responsibility for the high-quality of teaching and learning within Physical Education, including academic PE at GSCE and A Level

●Ensure involvement in competitive sport meets the strategic aims of the department

●Work with the Heads of School to ensure adequate staffing and effective running of all curriculum matters

●To line manage the Senior and Junior School PE Department

Educational Administration

●Oversee the Sporting CCA Programme, ensuring that the programme forms part of a strategic pathway providing excellence and sport for all at all levels in the College

●Ensure that all sporting facilities and equipment conform to a high level of Health and Safety scrutiny through excellent organisational and maintenance procedures

●Oversee the celebration of sporting success in the College through annual Sports Awards

●Ensure that the Departmental Handbook, Policies, Normal Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments are followed by all staff members with regular monitoring in place

●Prioritise areas of Physical Education and Sport that need financial support, managing the budget accordingly

●Liaise with the member of staff responsible for the hiring of the sports facilities

●Ensure that the administration system of school fixtures and results is in place and kept up to date

●Ensure all major sporting events are put into the whole College calendar  within the expected deadline to avoid clashes with other school events

●Ensure that the Head Master and other members of the College Leadership Team have regular information on all school sports activities

●Provide oversight of the organisation of Inter-House Sports Competitions each term

●Create a highly effective facilities timetable maximising access for all parts of the school

●Work with external providers to add value to the current level of provision within the Sports CCA Programme

●Work with the bus company regarding offsite transport requirements

●Ensure the school’s communication methods including social media are used to promote the opportunities available
