Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, inspirational and talented Director of Sport. An enthusiastic, well-qualified, ambitious and dedicated teacher is sought to lead all aspects of PE and games both within and beyond the curriculum. St. Paul’s has an excellent sporting reputation and the expectation is that the Director of Sport will build on this tradition, identifying ways to improve our delivery and performance as well as developing new opportunities.

The Director of Sport is a high-profile managerial role which sets the agenda for all sporting activities in both the Senior and Junior Schools. As well as leading Senior School in academic and competitive sports, the DoS also has oversight of Junior PE and sporting activities. S/he is well supported by a team of specialist coaches and PE teaching staff, as well as the Coordinator for Fixtures and Events. In addition to IGCSE PE, St Paul’s is planning to introduce IB Sports Science in 2024, so experience in 6th Form teaching would be an advantage.

The Sports Centre is the hub for the DoS. We have outstanding basketball and volleyball courts, with a 25m swimming pool and a multi-purpose area with fitness equipment as well as changing rooms. In addition to these facilities, we do have an outdoor facilities consisting of playing field, tennis court, volleyball and basketball courts. The DoS is responsible for the supervision and operation of the Sports Centre.

Start is expected to be in August 2023.

General Responsibilities

  • To be the public face of the sports culture at the school with a high-profile presence within the school and across relevant sports leagues in São Paulo
  • To set out and deliver a vision for sports at the school that builds on a strong tradition and excellent faculties
  • To take responsibility for all aspects of teaching and learning in PE and games within and beyond the curriculum.
  • To lead, manage, organise and oversee the development and smooth running of the department. 
  • To develop and implement an overall strategy for sport in this 3-18 school.
  • To support the Head in the implementation of all aspects of agreed school policy in order to maintain the ethos and aims of St. Paul’s School.
  • To assist in the implementation of the school development plan.
