Purpose of Role

The Director of Sports is an outstanding leader, responsible for the overall standards of teaching and learning in the department area. This person is not only an exceptional teacher, but also is committed to the Dehong values and philosophy in creating a bilingual, bicultural learning environment. This person communicates effectively with their team and creates a positive environment for staff to flourish and for students to learn.


Learning and Teaching Standards A

1.    Senior Leaders have joint responsibility for all aspects of the School relating to the education and development of the students; each has a focus of responsibility, but all contribute to the whole and support the work of others.  

2.    Create and foster an environment of reflective practice and development, leading by example in all aspects of personal and professional development.

3.    Develop and maintain a culture of high expectations for self and others.

4.    To keep abreast of developments and best practice, relevant to the specific responsibilities of their role, and advise the School Leadership Team of their relevance and potential impact on the school

5.    To provide reports to members of the School Leadership Team, in line with specific areas of responsibility, as and when required.

6.    Lead by example as a teacher and as a leader and manager, achieving high standards of pupil achievement and motivation through excellent teaching.

7.    To lead teams and individuals in line with specific areas of responsibility

8.    Support the development and maintenance of school policies and practices to ensure consistent application.

9.    Contribute to the development and implementation of the School Development Plan.

10.    Have a teaching commitment in line with Director of Sports status.

11.    Sustain effective, positive relationships with staff, pupils, parents, School Advisory Board and the local community.

12.    Contribute towards the school’s marketing and admissions activity as and when required

13.    Complete all supervisory duties, as required by Senior Team members, and directed through published rotas

14.    Offer full support to the boarding aspect of our school, showing a commitment that serves as an example for others 

15.    Attend relevant school events and activities.

16.    Manage budget(s) in line with areas of responsibility.

17.    Production of key School publications as detailed in the SLT Portfolios

18.    Organisation of key School events as detailed in the SLT Portfolios

19.    To ensure safe at school and child protection policies and practices across the school are in line with best practice and ensure all students safeguarding needs are met. 

 


Learning and Teaching Standards B

Main areas of responsibility:

1.    To coordinate and deliver a high quality extra curricular sports program in the School, which includes but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

At the start of each academic year to meet with the other schools in Shanghai and set dates for fixtures for boys and girls in a range of sports 

To arrange other fixtures as appropriate to seasonal sports.

Have oversight of the arrangements for athletics championships

To allocate to each team a coach or coaches either from the PE staff and qualified appointed coaches or/and from teaching staff who have expressed a preference to run a team and are suitably qualified and experienced. 

To oversee the arrangements for tournaments in all sports

To source and support suitable PD opportunities for teaching and coaching staff

2.    Through leadership of the Head of PE to ensure that the sports curriculum and extracurricular sports activities are closely linked and that all members of the PE team contribute to the schools extra-curricular program.

3.    Through leadership of the Head PE that the PE curriculum is of high quality and is in line with the schools ethos.

4.    To organise and chair regular meetings of the School PE staff for curriculum alignment, extra-curricular provision, facilities management and information sharing.

5.    The position will include a curriculum teaching requirement with a reduced load according to the responsibility scale.

•    Collaborate with colleagues across Dehong schools and Dulwich College International to share best practices around the network and participate in department-wide events as appropriate

•    Support service learning and sustainability practices, events and programmes

•    Other teaching and learning related tasks as determined by the Principal

Dehong Education Group is a dynamic and rapidly growing family of International Chinese schools in major cities in China.  

Dehong Shanghai International Chinese School, opened on 1 September 2017 and located in the Qizhong villa area of Maqiao, Minhang District, offers a progressive learning plan from elementary school to high school.
