Winchester College has been providing a distinctive and high quality education in an unbroken tradition dating back to the late 14th century. It is commonly regarded as one of the world’s leading independent schools, providing a full boarding education for 700 boys aged 13 to 18. 

With the arrival of Dr Tim Hands as Headmaster in August 2016, Winchester has embarked on a new and exciting stage in its evolution. The existing senior management team has been expanded and the College now seeks further to augment this team by the appointment of a Director of Studies who will have particular responsibility for academic administration and the analysis of pupil progress and achievement. The Director of Studies will be expected to play a key role within a collegiate senior team, dedicated to the continuing overall development of a world-class school. 

The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher with an enthusiasm for academic administration, and for numerical and statistical analysis. It is essential that they also have outstanding communication skills, and a strong pastoral and extra-curricular profile. Situated in Hampshire, Winchester College is an independent, secondary school for pupils aged between 13 and 18. The school was founded in 1382 by the Bishop of Winchester, William of Wykeham. It was expanded in the 19th Century to accommodate the popular demand in the local society. At the moment, there are over 700 pupils enrolled at the boarding school.

Pupils achieve excellent results in national examinations and make good progress in relation to the average of similar abilities. Pupils are successful in achieving high levels in a wide range of co-curricular activities, notably in academic competitions, music and sport. They enjoy an excellent, distinctive curriculum which encourages intellectual curiosity over and above preparation for examinations. In their learning, pupils display enthusiasm, commitment and a love of reading and research. This is engendered by excellent teaching overall which widens pupils’ academic horizons and challenges their thinking.
