Job overview

We are a school that values diversity and individual contribution; supporting and encouraging staff to pursue their interests and achieve their ambitions.

Following the promotion of our previous Director of Teaching and Learning, we are looking to appoint a dynamic and well-qualified individual to provide professional leadership, vision and direction for Teaching and Learning within the school.

You will be a committed and inspirational individual, ready to lead the development of teaching and learning practice throughout the school. You will be passionate and knowledgeable about the Professional Development of Teaching staff with experience of Digital Learning.

Working in partnership with the Deputy Head (Academic) and other members of the Senior Management Team, you will demonstrate strategic thinking and be an effective and successful teacher with good classroom discipline, high personal standards, and equally high expectations of pupils. With an enthusiastic approach to your work, you will have extensive experience of leading and managing a department.

Further information about the School can be found at www.latymer-upper.org

To apply, access the full candidate brief, and view our attractive staff benefits package, please visit our dedicated recruitment website via the Apply button.

Closing date: 9am on Tuesday 26 January 2021

Interviews will take place on Wednesday 10 February 2021 Given the current closure of schools within a further period of national lockdown, this recruitment process is likely to be conducted remotely.

The School is fully committed to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. We have an established and representative staff Equality and Diversity Board to help drive forward positive change. A further Equality and Diversity Committee has recently been formed from our student population.

We are committed to attracting and retaining the very best staff, ensuring that our staff body reflects the diversity of our students and local community. Acknowledging a lack of ethnic diversity within our Leadership Team, we particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates for this role. All appointments will be made on merit, following a fair and transparent process. In line with the Equality Act 2010, however, the School may employ positive action where diverse candidates can demonstrate their ability to perform the role equally well.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and two satisfactory references.

Welcome to Latymer Upper School. We are a vibrant, forward-thinking and co-educational independent secondary school in West London. Established in 1624 by the generosity of Edward Latymer and located in Hammersmith since 1895, the School upholds its founding principles of generosity and educational excellence.

With around 1,400 students, the success of our Inspiring Minds campaign started by the Latymer Foundation in 2017, means that by the end of our 400th year, we will be in a position to offer one in four students a bursary.

Latymer Upper School is at the forefront of education reform and from 2027, our bespoke Middle School curriculum will replace traditional GCSEs. This innovative approach will develop critical thinking, resilience, collaboration, creativity and problem-solving, preparing them for the independent learning required at A-level. Our students go on to secure places at prestigious universities including Oxbridge, North American and European institutions and are well set for success in the modern workplace.

We foster a welcoming and cosmopolitan environment and our commitment to individualised education ensures that Latymerians are not only highly academic but also well-rounded, grounded individuals.

We are also really proud to have teachers who help raise generations of young people to be passionate about their learning, students who support each other and a network of loyal Latymerian alumni.
