Job overview

Budmouth Academy is a large 11-18 academy in a beautiful part of the country and is a member of the Aspirations Academies Trust. We are looking for an exceptional individual to play an important role in our unique school. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for someone wishing to further develop their career. The successful candidate will be an exceptional leader with the ability to inspire staff and students to achieve outstanding outcomes. The successful candidate will also play an important role in leading the current D&T team to ensure the academic and pastoral needs of all students are met.

Candidates must be able to teach across the ability and age range, supporting DT to the highest standards for all pupils at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. This post would suit a teacher of experience, and as your professional development is important to us, there are highly supportive CPD opportunities available during your time at the school. The Director of Technology is a vital member of the Academy’s leadership team. The post is also supported by a Deputy Subject Coordinator and the Subject Leader in Computer Science.

Design & Technology is a vibrant and important part of the curriculum at Budmouth within all Key Stages. We offer a very wide range of D&T specialisms at KS3-5. Many of our courses include close links with local businesses and industries. Subjects in the department include: Textiles, Hospitality and Catering Engineering, Computer Science, Creative and Digital Media, Graphics and Construction. Budmouth was a former specialist Technology College and a legacy of that status includes outstanding facilities, for example we have a stand-alone Technology Centre and a strong reputation for STEM. A new Construction and Technology Centre is currently being designed and rebuilt as part of an entire school rebuild.

Our current team offer a range of extra-curricular support sessions to ensure students reach their full potential, and if successful, we would hope that you would share this ethic. In addition the school has a unique STEM pathway open to higher ability children who come to us via an entrance test in Year 7. Technology subjects are an integral part of this offer.

As your professional development is important to us, we offer a comprehensive package of CPD opportunities, including nationally recognised qualifications that suit all types of career progression. These are widely available, free of charge through the ALI (the Aspirations Learning Institute) at all of the Aspirations Academy schools. In addition, Budmouth has its very own Well-being Charter and working group, as we genuinely prioritise the well-being of our staff

Budmouth Academy Weymouth is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check. We value the diversity of our workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Budmouth is a large academy and we are fortunate to have excellent facilities. We offer an exciting curriculum and there are is a wide-range of courses on offer. We also have the only Sixth Form in the Weymouth and Portland area, meaning that we have the privilege of taking children from aged 11 right through to 18, and our excellent provision ensures that they are ready for the adult world. We encourage high aspirations for all our students and every year we send students off to some of the best universities in the country.

We strive to provide high quality learning for all in an environment that is both supportive of individuals and fosters high aspirations for everyone. However, we believe that a great education is about much more than just exam results. We aspire for all of our students to have a school experience that gives them access to a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Whether it is through Sport, Drama, Art, Music, Business and careers events, school trips, languages, Ten Tors or Duke of Edinburgh adventures. We hope that everyone will take up the opportunities that will add that all important ‘extra’ to their school experience.
