Job overview

DofE Award/Expeditions Assistant

Required from January 2019

Fixed-term until August 2020 in the first instance

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and practical individual to assist with all aspects of the School’s Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, and other School expeditions and trips. The role is both administrative and practical, requiring the individual to attend and assist with residential and day trips in line with the School calendar. A high level of flexibility with regard to working hours is therefore necessary, as well as a keen interest in, and aptitude for outdoor activities of this nature.

The post-holder will be remunerated based on them working an average of three days per week, for 35 weeks per year. These hours will be worked largely during the school term-time to include some evening functions, with a number of Duke of Edinburgh expeditions taking place at weekends, and occasionally in the school holidays. In addition, ideally the post-holder will accompany a number of other school trips and residential trips; exact dates to be discussed at interview and agreed by negotiation on an annual basis. The School’s programme of expeditions and trips is planned well in advance, so the post-holder should have considerable notice of their expected date commitments.

Founded on Christian values, we enable every girl to discover and develop her own strengths. St Helen & St Katharine is a school where success is celebrated but not revered and our goal is to ensure that every girl achieves success as she defines it, so that she can believe in herself, her talents and her abilities.

We are one of the leading girls’ schools in the country and are justifiably proud of a tradition of high aspiration and academic achievement (our students achieved record breaking GCSE results with 77% A* this year). But we take just as much pleasure in the warmth of the atmosphere here and in our dynamic range of extra-curricular activities. From Minecraft to Mandarin, Silversmithing to Sailing, Board Games to Big Band and much more besides, our girls are given the space and opportunity to make their own choices and find their niche.

A welcoming 22 acre campus in Abingdon provides exceptional facilities that include a brand new state-of-the-art Sports Centre; Performing Arts Centre; extended Sixth Form Centre; Science Centre with 12 new laboratories, break out spaces and a 200sqm science themed glass atrium and a 3D Design Centre.

This is a friendly and happy place in which lasting relationships are built on kindness and respect. Our ambitions for our students are based upon them developing confidence and resilience and an open-minded and creative approach to learning and to life.
