Job overview

Le Rosey is an international co-educational boarding school for over 400 students, located in Switzerland. We are looking for a Doyen (Academic Dean) of the International Baccalaureate Section to join our team in September 2021.

The Doyen of the IB will work in close collaboration with the other doyens, the relevant Academic Head, University Guidance department, Heads of Department, Tutors, Head of Teaching and Learning and Directors of Boarding. The doyen also works closely with the school counsellor and Learning Support staff.

The Doyen of the IB is expected to work in both English and French and will be responsible for:

  • Academic leadership of the IB (in collaboration with the Academic Head, IB Coordinator and CAS Coordinator)
  • Directing meetings for teachers in the IB section
  • Orientation and Guidance
  • Following the progress of individual pupils
  • Contributing to the decision to promote a student at the end of the year
  • Chairing Academic Councils for IB students (and attending Disciplinary Councils)
  • Coordinating the work of Class Tutors, CAS Coordinator, IB Coordinator.
  • Contact with parents for all academic matters
  • Comments on reports to parents

The Doyen will also participate in the overall running of the school in collaboration with other doyens. This involves participating in a regular weekly regular management meetings. 

In particular, he or she will be required to:

  • Participate in the overall organisation of the school year and timetable, documentation of programmes, reforms, exams and staffing
  • Promote effective teaching and learning by setting an example of high standards of professionalism and reflective practice with particular reference to our principles of High Quality Learning
  • Be involved in the appointment of Doyens, Heads of Department and new staff as well as in the termination of teachers’ contracts
  • Promote the school’s commitment to safeguarding and to the welfare of children and young people
  • Undertake other duties relevant to the role and as directed by the Academic Heads

Le Rosey is a boarding school and the post will probably be residential. On-campus accommodation is provided and conditions of work are attractive.  The successful applicant will be expected to play an active role in boarding life.

About Institut Le Rosey

Founded in 1880, Institut Le Rosey (www.rosey.ch) offers a rounded bilingual education in English and/or French for 440 students aged 8-18, leading to the IB Diploma and French baccalauréat.  It also offers a unique two-campus system through its move from a 75-acre château setting by Lake Geneva to the school’s alpine campus every winter term. In addition to promoting bilingualism and biculturalism, Le Rosey offers a broad academic programme and range of IB and “Pre-Bac” subjects, with an exceptionally strong tradition in foreign languages.  Class sizes are small and the main campus in Rolle is particularly well equipped.  All students without exception sit the full diploma of the IB or the French “bac”; results are excellent (IB/French bac average of 36+ points), and all students go on to universities in the USA, UK and across the world, with well over 30% to the Ivy League, Ivy league Plus, Oxbridge, and top-ranked universities across the world.

Sports, Arts and Expeditions

Le Rosey is committed to holistic educational principles.  An exceptionally varied, sports, expedition, arts and cultural programme takes full advantage of facilities which include riding stables, a sailing centre, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a fitness and “wellness” centre.  There is also a strong winter sports tradition. The school boasts an exceptional state-of-the-art Arts and Learning Centre and 900-seat concert hall (www.roseyconcerthall.ch) on its Rolle campus.
