Who we are looking for:

You will:

  • Be responsible for high quality autism specific education and development of a class / group of autistic children and young people.
  • To have the potential to develop skills in order to work with pupils with complex needs in addition to autism spectrum disorder, such as ADHD, OCD and PDA
  • To be responsible for planning implementing and delivering a personalised curriculum to individual children and groups that is relevant and motivating for each child.
  • Ensure the quality of teaching and learning meets statutory requirements
  • Ensure continuity across the year groups from EYS - 22 working collaboratively with FE partners, contributing and driving joint planning including residential outward- bound experiences.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide the highest standard of support, assisting children in achieving their maximum potential through the implementation of the SPELL framework
  • Plan, develop and deliver a broad and balanced curriculum
  • Devise and implement an individualised educational programme / Individual Education Plan (IEP) in liaison with a multidisciplinary team.
  • To assume responsibility for classroom management including the environment, staff and children
  • Develop a provision of the highest possible quality of education including the aligning with the schools Quality of Life Curriculum and maintain a supportive atmosphere, ensuring the safety, protection and wellbeing of each child
  • Manage and develop curricular areas and monitor teaching standards for these areas

Essential and Desirable Requirements

  • QTS Essential
  • Experience working in Theatre/ Acting/ Movement or Performance would be highly desirable
  • Experience in Teaching of English is essential

The Sybil Elgar School was opened by The National Autistic Society (NAS) in 1965. From its early beginnings of nine pupils/students in one building, it now has the facility to take up to 72 pupils/students as day or weekly boarders, aged 11-19+. The residential accommodation is based in Florence Road, Ealing and the educational provision is in Havelock Road, Southall.

The residential students are coached to and from Corfton Road with the Residential Social Workers and/or Classroom Assistants acting as escorts. Both complexes are easily accessible by public transport.
