About the role:
We are seeking a practical, organised and enthusiastic individual to join our Design & Technology Department as a Technician. The successful candidate will provide specialist technical support across the department, including the preparation, maintenance and organisation of equipment, materials and resources, as well as supporting staff and students during practical lessons and activities.
The role would suit someone who enjoys working in a hands-on environment and has a keen interest in Design & Technology. While no formal qualifications are required, candidates should possess a good overall standard of education, strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Working hours and patterns will be discussed at interview and can offer flexibility for the right candidate.
About the Department:
Our thriving Design & Technology Department comprises five full and part-time teaching staff supported by two dedicated technicians. Based in the Longbrook building, the department benefits from eight specialist workshops, including two food technology rooms, a textiles room, dedicated metal and wood workshops, a multi-materials workshop, a graphics room, and an electronics room. All areas are exceptionally well equipped and provide an inspiring environment for both staff and students.
The department also boasts a dedicated CAD/CAM suite, housing industry-standard equipment including laser cutters, 3D printers and a vinyl cutter. These technologies play a central role in the delivery of Design & Technology across the curriculum, making this an exciting opportunity for a technician with an interest in innovative manufacturing technologies.
Students study Design & Technology from Years 7 to 13. At Key Stage 4, we offer GCSE Design Technology and GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition, while Product Design is available at A Level. At Key Stage 3, students experience a broad and balanced curriculum, rotating through a range of material areas to develop their knowledge, skills and creativity across the subject disciplines.
