Job overview

The Mathematics Department

The Mathematics department is a forward thinking department, which seeks to enthuse the pupils by delivering outstanding and innovative teaching. Across the school, students use Hegarty Maths both in lessons and at home to deepen their understanding and practise their skills. Pupils are taught Maths in sets. At GCSE, students currently follow the Edexcel course and both Mathematics and Further Mathematics are offered in the Sixth Form. To enhance learning outside of the classroom, each year the department selects a theme for Maths week, and organises assemblies and activities linked to this theme. The school takes part in the UKMT individual challenges, team challenges, Royal Institution Masterclasses at the University of Surrey and the department organises trips to events such as Maths Fest.

We seek to appoint a candidate with outstanding qualities of leadership; one who has the vision, enthusiasm and energy to develop further the work of the department alongside contributing to the exciting growth Dunottar is experiencing. The post will appeal to someone with initiative and imagination to shape the identity of the Mathematics department in this forward thinking school. As part of the United Learning group, the Head of Mathematics will work closely with the United Learning Director of Mathematics and their team, and will have the opportunity to engage with Heads of Mathematics from around the group at termly away days.

Dunottar is a vibrant, co-educational independent secondary school set in extensive grounds of 15 acres on the outskirts of Reigate, Surrey. We have 460 pupils across years 7-13 and are part of United Learning’s large and growing family of schools. We are a first-choice school for parents in the local area and operate a waiting list for admissions.

Through excellent teaching and outstanding pastoral care, we aim to bring out the best in every pupil, enabling them to be the very best they can be. We believe that for pupils to succeed in the workplace of the future, they need a well-rounded education that goes beyond academics. Our unique Warrior Learning ethos encourages pupils to aim high, to challenge themselves and not to fear making mistakes, whilst also developing an excellent set of values.
