Job overview

EAL PRACTITIONER REQUIRED

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Elutec Academy and Sixth Form as an EAL teacher.

We are looking for an enthusiastic EAL teacher who can inspire our pupils with a real love of language and deliver outstanding teaching and pastoral support to our students.

Working across KS4 and KS5, this is an opportunity for a hard-working professional to work with students who are passionate about STEM subjects. You will be working in a supportive, nurturing culture that sets high expectations of educational outcome whilst supporting students to fulfil their academic potential and achieve their goals of a STEM destination.

Elutec Academy is housed in an impressive new building in Barking and Dagenham, part of the Business and Science Park which is soon to be joined by an exciting new film studio complex. The school has excellent transport links, with Dagenham East tube station a short walk away.

The school’s exceptional sponsors include Ford Motor Company, one of the world's foremost design, engineering and manufacturing enterprises, and the Faculty of Engineering at University College London (UCL), ranked as one of the top 20 universities in the world.

We offer staff the opportunity to work part-time along with on-going opportunities to continue their professional development.

The Role:

The purpose of this role is to teach EAL throughout the school.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree

Desirable Experience:

• Established career in teaching or working with EAL students

• Teaching teenagers/young adults

• Proficiency in English

• Creative approach to language teaching

Responsibilities:

To provide EAL students with English language skills of life-long value, specifically to improve their communicative ability in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

To identify students in need of EAL support upon entry into the academy by conducting individual assessments using the appropriate assessment tools.

Provide EAL students with regular feedback, both orally and through accurate and detailed marking, and ensure they regularly respond to feedback and reflect on their own progress.

To develop and update EAL learner profiles detailing strategies applicable in the classroom for teachers to adapt into their practices. This includes sharing of knowledge about students’ abilities and needs in English and to encourage teaching staff to use this knowledge effectively in planning and teaching.

To develop students’ confidence and motivation to take advantage of the academic and social opportunities offered by Elutec Academy.

To ensure that students are given the best opportunity to reach their potential in all curriculum areas by reducing the barrier of language, and to support students in curriculum subjects where the lack of English is impeding progress.

To ensure that there is regular and effective liaison between everyone involved in the teaching and care of EAL students. This may include attending departmental meetings, observing EAL students in mainstream classes, designing and delivering teacher development sessions.
