Purpose of job: --- You will work with individual and groups of students who are recently arrived from overseas / new to English, Minority Ethnic students at risk of underachieving and students whose behaviour is a barrier to learning. You will be expected to carry out any reasonable task required which falls within the scope of the purpose of the post.
Responsible for: Raising the attainment and inclusion of EAL students

General Duties and Responsibilities:
· Working with EAL, Inclusion, Learning Support, Pastoral and Curriculum staff in planning and supporting the work of target students. · Collaborating with professional colleagues to develop and maintain close working links with parent / carers and support agencies. · Working with individual and groups of students who are recently arrived from overseas/ new to English and Minority Ethnic students at risk of underachieving. · Working with individuals and groups of students whose behaviour acts as a barrier to their learning. · Working with the EAL Area Team Leader and other colleagues to devise, update and disseminate Student Support Records of target students. · Working with staff to promote and develop classroom strategies to support the learning and inclusion of target students · Being involved with the admission and induction of new students to the school. · Providing reports, with the EAL Area Team Leader or Inclusion Manager, which contribute to annual reporting procedures. · Liaising with outside agencies to support target students’ curriculum and pastoral needs. · Monitoring student performance and setting appropriate targets in line with whole school target setting.
· Contributing to organisation and display in the EAL and Inclusion rooms. · Being involved in liaison with Primary Schools, induction of new students and data collection. · Contributing to the additional extra curricular activities organised by the EAL and Inclusion teams in school. · Helping to establish the school ethos based on the aims of the school. · Supporting the school’s positive discipline policy both in classrooms and corridors.
· Observing students in lessons and making appropriate comments. · Supporting students in class · Promoting EAL and behaviour strategies for New to English students or students with behaviour difficulties to colleagues. · Withdrawing small groups of students for English as an Additional Language tuition/ study support in line with EAL policy or to do behaviour modification work. · Developing resources and lessons for target students. · Gathering information about student achievement from subject staff. · Keeping / updating data on target students for EAL/key student files. · Meeting new parent / carers to collect information about new students and disseminating this to staff. · Supporting new students on arrival to access lessons and school procedures. · Contacting and communicating with parent/ carers of target students as appropriate. · Setting appropriate student targets, establishing a support package and sharing the information with the relevant people. · Providing support for target students during exam periods and / or delivering alternative activities for students not taking exams. · Supporting and collecting information during primary transition. · Supporting staff and students during annual activities such as Work Experience and Options. · Supporting students who attend the after school sessions. · Using the school’s system for referral of achievement and discipline. · Attending all relevant staff meetings and weekly EAL or Inclusion team meetings. · Receiving induction training from EAL and Inclusion staff and opportunities to attend relevant in service training.

The salary is B3 .18 - .21 (£18, 070 - £20, 138) 37 hours a week, term time only plus 5 days (pro rata £15,386 - £17,147)
