SALDA is a not-for-profit that provide education support services in addition to leading on professional development, research and advocacy initiatives related to speech and language disorders. These services include our therapy programs, School Support Services and The Glenleighden School. We partner with the community, health professionals, educators and families to help children and young people find their voice.


This specific role is part of the Glenleighden School which is operated by SALDA.


The Glenleighden School provides comprehensive, intensive, multidisciplinary programs to suit students P-12 which are individualised to address each students' developmental and learning needs. Therapists, teachers and assistants work within classroom settings to support students with communication difficulties to access the curriculum.


The Early EducationTeacher’s role is to provide comprehensive and effective educational services for children and their families. The Teacher is one of the key professionals within a multidisciplinary team, supporting appropriate educational outcomes for students with a disability for whom language is their primary disorder. 


This is a Full-time Maternity cover position until June 2020. Position looking to begin mid July 2019.

Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL

-A minimum of Bachelor Degree in Education or Graduate Diploma in Education from an approved tertiary institution

-Registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.

DESIRABLE

-Qualifications in Special Education or Inclusive Education.

The Glenleighden School is a mixed, non-selective, independent, special needs school in Queensland, serving students from the age of 4-18. The all-through school is situated in Brisbane’s western suburbs in Fig Tree Pocket.

Established in 1979, the school benefits from a quiet, rural setting and boasts a friendly, motivating environment, with the aim of preparing students to return to mainstream school. Parents are encouraged to play an active role in their children’s life at the school, through working in close partnership with teachers and helping out with things such as classroom-based tasks and sporting events. Staff benefit from a wide range of professional development opportunities and receive support from professionals within the health and educational disciplines.

Curriculum

The Glenleighden School offers a broad, individualised learning programme for each student and their specific needs throughout each stage of their lives, placing a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, along with skills required for daily life and later on, the world of work. The school offers a range of extra-curricular activities including camps, horse riding, swimming lessons and sports clubs.

It is the focus of the school to ensure that students are recognised as individuals and that their learning disabilities are viewed in context of pupils as a whole. The school aims to encourage each child to overcome obstacles, gain confidence and self-esteem, and follows the motto "Achievement over adversity".
