Job overview

36 hours per week

As part of our drive to improve services for vulnerable children and young people within the borough, Bexley has established multidisciplinary Early Intervention Teams (EITS), which work closely with schools identifying and supporting children with SEN or AEN, as well as supporting and training school SENCos and other staff. The teams contain professionals from a variety of disciplines in education including Educational Psychologists, Social Emotional and Mental Health Support staff. AEN/SEN Advisors and Education Welfare Officers. There are also two social workers working within the team whose services are bought in by schools. Staff work closely with schools, but also undertake relevant work outside of school settings. Staff also work in a significant number of academies that buy in services through a yearly SLA.

The focus of the teams is on early intervention, seeking to provide support to children young people and their families, who require additional help to achieve successful educational and social outcomes,( but whose needs are not severe enough for them to meet the criteria for higher threshold services). Providing support at an early stage will enable needs to be addressed and ensure that the numbers needing higher level services will reduce over time. EPs in particular within the team do work with higher threshold children, particularly with regard to EHCP applications.

The successful candidate would need to be a qualified teacher or hold a qualification to degree level in an area related to children. They will have significant experience either in teaching or working with children and a thorough understanding of schools and education- particularly in the field of SEN. They will also need to be highly organised. Ideally they would hold a postgraduate qualification in a related field or a management qualification.

The main purpose of the job is:-

  • Management of one of the two Early Intervention Teams that support schools in Bexley. This will include organising team meetings day to day management of staff in the team as well as performance management
  • Organise and attend (as many as possible) the termly meetings the team has with schools ensure work is allocated appropriately and that minutes are taken and distributed.
  • To act in an advisory capacity to schools
  • To liaise closely with other team members to coherently plan interventions and prevent the need for higher threshold services arising in terms of learning and inclusion.
  • To support the Principal Educational Psychologist /Head of EIT in other tasks such as coordinating SLA with schools, data collection and analysis and other organisational tasks.
  • Ideally, the candidate would be able to offer organisational line manager to our Senior Social Worker.

If you have the relevant skills and experience to join our service and help to develop its future, please submit an application.
