About Harris Primary Academy Beckenham

As children begin their education, we want to make their first school years as enjoyable as possible and develop in them a real enthusiasm for learning. We will lay the foundations for a successful academic career, which means developing the core skills of reading, writing and maths from day one. We work closely with our parents to establish a strong and committed parent body with whom we can work in partnership to help our academy flourish.

Harris Primary Academy Beckenham opened in 2015 with its first two Reception classes of 20 children each, and now educates children from Reception to Year 3. The response in the local area was very supportive and we took an additional 46 Reception children in September 2016. In January 2017, we moved into our brand new, purpose built building, offering state of the art equipment and facilities. Each year we will take an additional 60 children into Reception year until the school is full in 2021.

Our academy is situated in a quiet, residential area with large landscaping and grounds just opposite Kelsey Park in Beckenham. We are looking for someone who wishes to join our group of friendly staff to personally develop and grow alongside our academy.

  • An exciting, well organised and vibrant environment in which to work.
  • A fantastic community of parents and children who deserve the best

About Harris Primary Academy Beckenham

School summary

Opened in September 2015, Harris Primary Academy Beckenham is one of the area’s newest schools, but is part of a Federation of Free Schools and Academies with an established track record in London.

Our aim is to make sure that, from the first day of their education, our pupils have a truly happy experience of school. This means teaching them to become confident learners and nurturing each child’s personality and character.

All of our staff are primary specialists, working together to promote our core values and keeping our children consistently happy and safe. Our exciting, personalised learning curriculum supports and challenges all of our students and is at the heart of our teaching and learning philosophy. We ensure that all teaching and support staff have access to the highest quality training programmes to provide the most innovative and cutting-edge learning opportunities for every student.

Academy ethos

Whatever a child’s background or starting point, we want to make sure that they finish Year 6 with the academic skills, social skills and knowledge necessary to succeed. Every lesson at our school is creative and there is plenty of time for children to think, to play, to discover and wonder.

Each child is taught in the way that suits them best and we step in quickly if a change is needed. For some children, this might involve one-to-one support if they are finding something difficult and for others it could mean stretching them more to keep them interested.

Our school is relaxed and comfortable but pupils know that good behaviour is expected of them and are taught to respect each other and their teachers. They are frequently praised and rewarded for trying their best and for being kind, hard-working and well-behaved.

Our school is friendly and welcoming and we always make sure that every pupil has at least one friend.
