Job overview

About the Pre-Prep:

The Pre-Prep is one school, 8 classes, based over two sites. One in the idyllic rural setting of Madingley and the other in Cambridge City centre. The post advertised is in our Madingley school nestled in the heart of the forest and village of Madingley. Here you will find just four classes of Pre-Prep children aged 3 to 7 years. We are looking for someone to join this close knit team with small classes, just 16 in Reception, and teaching assistants in every class. Parents who choose to educate their children at Madingley walk out of the back door and exclaim, ‘This is where I want my child to learn.’ We are ideally looking for someone with experience teaching Reception or in the Early Years who can join our Early Years team and bring new ideas and practice to our staff. Parental relationships are key to supporting learning so with all classrooms opening with teachers at 8am we can settle children into informal activities before registration at 8:45am. As a staff of reflective practitioners we are always looking for ways to improve and develop our learning environments, lessons and pedagogy to make the best school for our learners. Do look at the person specification for further desirable qualities but if you like the sound of us then always apply as we are open to different strengths and happy to support professional development. Our website will also give you a great feel for who we are and what we believe in or come and visit us to see for yourself.

About The Stephen Perse Foundation:

The Stephen Perse Foundation is different. With 6 schools on 5 sites, running from ages 3 to 19 years old, we have over 1,050 students, around 150 teaching staff and 100 support staff to make this amazing school work for everyone.

Over the last few years we have grown from an all-girl 7 – 19 school in central Cambridge to a family of 6 schools on 5 sites:

Stephen Perse Pre-Prep (Madingley) – boys and girls aged 3 – 7

Stephen Perse Pre-Prep (Cambridge) – boys and girls aged 3 – 7

Dame Bradbury’s School (Saffron Walden) – boys and girls aged 3 – 11

Stephen Perse Junior School (Cambridge) – boys and girls aged 7 – 11 (we started taking boys in Year 3 in 2014)

Stephen Perse Senior School (Cambridge) – girls aged 11 – 16

Stephen Perse 6th Form College (Cambridge) – boys and girls aged 16 – 19

We received the ISA Independent School of the Year Award for 2014 – 2015, following our ISI Inspection Report in March 2014 which gave us the highest grading in every aspect of all parts of our schools in Cambridge and Madingley and an overall judgement of ‘exceptional’ for pupils’ achievement and learning. Dame Bradbury’s received its own ‘excellent’ inspection result in 2011.

We have a rich and creative curriculum which chooses from the best GCSE and IGCSEs and also includes A Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in our award-winning 6th Form College (Sunday Times IB School of the Year 2010 & 2013).

As we move towards a diamond formation throughout the School, we will be continuing to make major investment in our facilities to build on the considerable developments in recent years. We have already redesigned our libraries and our Pre-Prep classrooms to create imaginative spaces and have begun to rethink the way in which we use traditional classrooms, with a mind to making more flexible rooms in which collaboration as well as individual work and presentation is encouraged. In the next few years we will be building brand-new sports facilities on our Senior School site and reconfiguring our laboratory and performing arts space.

To promote effective learning, appropriate achievement and educational, social and personal progress of all pupils for Early Years pupils, consistent with the aims of the school and the unique needs of each individual.

All employees of the Foundation adhere to the Safer Working Practices guidance and all teaching staff are required to adhere to the Teaching Standards which can be found on the Foundation website under Recruitment. http://www.stephenperse.com/recruitment

The Stephen Perse Foundation

The Stephen Perse Foundation is a family of independent schools combining excellent results and achievement alongside personal wellbeing located across Cambridge and Saffron Walden; educating boys and girls from nursery to sixth form where students gain an exceptional skill set that supports ambition, nurtures talent, encourages creativity and critical thinking leading to success and self-fulfilment.

Stephen Perse Nurseries & Early Years - Madingley

At our Cambridge Madingley site we offer the following classes – Baby, Toddler, Rising three's and Kindergarten.

In each class the children’s learning opportunities and experiences are aimed at developing the skills they need to be successful. Through having each of these classes in our early years provision we can plot a child’s learning journey knowing what they need in Reception and discovering how best to support them in achieving ‘school readiness’.

We think that life is an adventure and we help our boys and girls to embrace it with confidence, independence and joy. While our nursery at Madingley has its own unique personality and features, it shares the same commitment to play-based learning and development, the same approach to health and nutrition, and the same exceptional level of childcare as the other Stephen Perse Nurseries.

Children at Madingley forge a strong connection with nature and the environment thanks to the outdoor play areas and on-site Forest School. Combined with the beautiful buildings we occupy, it’s the perfect place for our nursery children to develop and learn.

Facilities at Madingley

Our nursery for ages 1-3 is located in a beautiful lodge, full of creative spaces and cozy areas. Our Kindergarten and Reception classrooms are in a picturesque Victorian schoolhouse, along with a light, spacious hall.

Our large playground has climbing frames and balance equipment, perfect for improving coordination and burning off energy, and our garden includes sensory play areas including a mud kitchen.

Surrounded by nature, we offer lots of opportunities for children to explore the world around them, including our on-site Forest School.
