Leipzig International School: Learning to be a Citizen of the World

Leipzig International School provides a high quality international education, conducted in English, to children of all backgrounds, thereby supporting the regional community and promoting international understanding.

Our Leipzig International Kindergarten, opened in June 2014, provides over 240 children aged 1 to 6 with a full-day early education programme. We are fortunate to be working in an attractive,   purpose-built facility that hosts a wide range of indoor classrooms and play spaces as well as a spacious, landscaped outdoor learning environment.

Are you interested in becoming part of an international team? Do you believe that education is about learning how to become a citizen of the world?

We are seeking an Early Years / Kindergarten Teacher (f/m) as parental leave cover until 31 July 2018 who can support the development and learning of our children in a caring  and entertaining way. In Early Years 1 and 2 (3-5 year old's) we follow  the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, yet play remains the basis  for learning. We use a ‘High Scope’ approach to develop the children’s  growth and individuality. Child-initiated projects are developed in  classroom centres and environments; children learn through a system of  planning, carrying out and reviewing their play. Qualified teachers and  educators work collaboratively as a bilingual team to provide dual  language learning opportunities. Each group is led by an English and a  German native speaker according to the one-person-one-language-principle, enabling children to learn both  languages. Early Years 3 (5-6 year old's) follows a similar programme which aims at building upon the foundations laid in Early Years 1 and 2. Additionally, the International Primary Curriculum is introduced at  this stage, with classes held in English only, to structure the  children’s learning and prepare them for Grade 1 at our International  School.

About Leipzig International School

The Leipzig International School (LIS) is a non-profit day school, founded in 1991 to serve the needs of the international community of the Leipzig region. LIS has grown steadily since it opened as the first International School in the state of Saxony as a pre-school and elementary school. LIS is the oldest and largest international school in central Germany, run by a non-charitable organisation. Over 850 students from over 70 countries attend the school, which operates on two sites: The Leipzig International Kindergarten for the Early Childhood students and the school campus for Grades 1-12. The most highly represented nations are the United States of America, Japan, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands as well as the host country, Germany. The school employs over 190 experienced, well-qualified and highly motivated staff members of 32 nationalities, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and Canada. The school’s current strategy calls for further expansion over the next years, to reach a final size of 950 students from Nursery through to Grade 12.

The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools as well as by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.  It is authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to offer both the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related Programme. All students sit the Cambridge IGCSEs in Grade 10. In the Primary School the International Primary Curriculum and the Cambridge English and Mathematics Programmes are used as a tool to support and develop learning using a theme-based approach and to ensure that we provide a clear and consistent curriculum that appropriately challenges all students. In the Leipzig International Kindergarten we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, yet play remains the basis for learning. We use the ‘High Scope’ approach to develop the children’s growth and individuality. Additionally, the International Primary Curriculum is introduced in Early Years 3 (reception) classes.

The school is centrally located in the city adjacent to a beautiful park containing a woodland area and a river. Leipzig has more bicycles than people and this is the transport of choice for most of our community. Leipzig is much talked about in the world’s press for being Germany’s most fun, creative and livable city (New York Times, Guardian Travel) and its many festivals and exhibitions bring a dynamism that is hard to beat. The quality and affordability of life in Leipzig is second to none: green, safe, cultural, child friendly, super-efficient public transport. Leave your car at home and participate in our staff musical!
