This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Early Years Teacher who would like be part of a leading independent day school for boys aged 2 – 7, including a co-educational Nursery for girls and boys aged 2 – 4.

We are first and foremost specialists in Early Years education and we foster a love of learning through delivering a broad, balanced, exciting and stimulating curriculum which has been carefully tailored to suit this young age group.


JOB PURPOSE

To plan, organise and teach a class of Nursery aged pupils (2-4 years old)

To work closely with the Head of Early Years and the Nursery teaching team to provide a safe, happy and stimulating learning environment for the pupils


RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Prepare plans for each curriculum area having regard for continuity and progression in learning and the school’s policies 
  • Prepare daily plans in sufficient detail to give a clear view of how each individual lesson should develop. 
  • Ensure that all work is prepared and ready in advance of the lesson 
  • Continually assess children’s progress both formally and informally and maintain children’s profile records 
  • To provide a warm, friendly, supportive atmosphere that is conducive to the social and emotional needs of the children within an assigned class 
  • Follow all codes of practice in relation to school discipline, health and safety regulations, Special Educational Needs and the reporting of accidents 
  • Keep the attendance register am and pm each day 
  • Organise the classroom in an attractive and stimulating fashion and display the children’s work to the best possible advantage 
  • Cover for colleagues in their absence 
  • Take a full part in staff meetings, INSET, and parents’ evenings 
  • Support the pupils and school as a whole, by attending school productions, functions and any events as requested 
  • Collaborate with other members of staff and help promote good working relationships 
  • Build close working relationships with the reception class staff to ensure continuity and progression between year groups 
  • Foster the development and continuation of good parent/teacher relationships 
  • To prepare school reports, reports for educational psychologists, other schools and for any other body/organisation as requested by the Head or Deputy Head 
  • Make full and proper use of the materials and resources available 
  • The teacher has the responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people in accordance to our Safeguarding Policy 
  • You may also be required to undertake such other comparable duties as the Head requires from time to time.


Suitable candidates will be:

Essential 

  • EYPS or QTS qualified 
  • Evidence of CPD and/or school practice 
  • Prior teaching experience in working with 2 – 4 year olds 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and its assessment 
  • Confident use of ICT 
  • Evidence of involvement in curriculum development 
  • An understanding of recent developments in assessment 
  • Excellent classroom practitioner 
  • Competent user of Information Technology 
  • Commitment to being an excellent team player 
  • Establish professional relationships with children and families 
  • Excellent behaviour management skills 
  • Thorough understanding of the developmental and learning needs of young children, particularly within the EYFS 
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety issues relevant to this age range 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and its assessment 
  • Evidence of involvement in curriculum development 
  • An understanding of recent developments in assessment 
  • Awareness of safeguarding issues 
  • Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people

Desirable 

  • Qualification for working with children who have Special Educational needs 
  • First Aid qualification 
  • Additional training/qualifications to enhance performance in the EYFS 
  • Experience of interactive whiteboards 
  • Specific subject skills and knowledge 
  • Wider knowledge of the use of ICT and the internet 
  • Working in the independent sector 
  • Ability to lead a subject area 
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the EYFS curriculum 
  • Knowledge of the independent school structure and requirements for entrance to Prep Schools

Falcons Pre-Preparatory Chiswick is a leading independent, non-selective school for boys aged 2-7 year olds including a co-educational Nursery for 2-4 year olds.

The school is located in a leafy suburb of West London and was originally founded in 1956, as the Falkner House Boys School. It changed its name in 1989 when it became a pre-preparatory school and moved to its present site in Burnaby Gardens. It is part of one of the most successful educational groups in the UK, the Alpha Plus Group.
