We are looking for an Early Years Teacher for our dual language programme. To start 1 September 2020 (team induction week starts 25 August 2020).

At Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill, students can now start and benefit from our unique early years’ dual language immersion programme from three years old, guided by two teachers who each use their mother tongue or native level language alongside each other. This setting creates the ideal conditions for the very nature of bilingualism to flourish naturally in a safe and nurturing environment. 

Overview of role

Early Years offer the first school experience for our youngest students: it is therefore paramount that it be safe, joyful and rich. Our child-led approach is based around their ideas and interests which enables them to explore a range of activities which provide multiple opportunities for open-ended learning in both languages. To guide them through their educational journey, we recruit highly-trained teachers who can provide a nurturing and supportive environment based on positive interactions in a balanced bilingual setting. Because our youngest students need to feel safe and secure to achieve their full potential, classes welcome a maximum of 16 students who interact simultaneously with two native level Early Years specialists (French and English). 

Key Responsibilities 

In order to develop self-directed and confident young learners, children will experience in your classroom: 

  • Active project-based learning through innovative methods
  • Inquiry activities through provocations
  • Interactions in a safe environment dedicated to experiential learning
  • Positive interactions - relationship - learning from others (Hattie, 2008***) 

You will:

  • Teach students aged 3 and or 4 alongside your French colleague
  • Model, foster and create an environment where an innovative mindset is cultivated
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on/project-based activities to increase student learning and confidence to learn for all students
  • Provide meaningful feedback to students
  • Analyse student assessment results to help inform instruction
  • Maintain contact with parents/guardians
  • Maintain up to date records of student achievement on school system
  • Strong organisational and class management skills that promote student-centered learning
  • Participate as an active member of the school community.

This job description sets out the duties of the post at the time it was drawn up.  The post holder may be required from time to time to undertake other duties within the School as may be reasonable expected, without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed.  This is a common occurrence and would not justify a reconsideration of the grading of the post.

About Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill

Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill is an independent school in Wembley, London offering two tracks: the French curriculum in a bilingual environment and the English International Program leading to the IB Diploma programme in Y12 and 13. We are opening our Early Years Programme (for children aged 3 to 5) in September 2020.

The school opened its doors in September 2015 and now welcomes 850 students from Year 1 to Year 13. Located in the splendid, historic and entirely renovated Brent Town Hall, the Lycée offers state-of-the-art facilities and learning tools where the art and happiness of learning and teaching rule.

The Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill occupies the site of the former Brent Town Hall, a 1930s Grade II-listed building in the late Art Deco style that was bought from Brent Council by the French Education Property Trust in 2012. The new campus is set over five acres, with 12,000 square metres of refurbished and purpose-built teaching spaces for the three levels of schooling:

  • Early Years/Primary: Nursery/Reception to Year 6
  • Lower Secondary: Years 7 to 10
  • Upper Secondary: Years 11 to 13

The campus boasts multiple onsite sports facilities including a running track, three outdoor grass pitches, and an indoor gymnasium. The newly-constructed annex building houses modern science classrooms and a large, bright canteen.

2020 University Offers and destinations:

Our final year (Terminale) students currently have offers from top universities in six different countries, including the UK, France, Canada, Spain, the US, and the Netherlands. Two-thirds of the total UK offers received so far are from Russell Group universities, including University of Cambridge, Imperial College, University College London (UCL), the London School of Economics (LSE), King’s College, Durham University, and the University of Edinburgh.

Additionally, 85% of students that applied via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) have received three or more offers to date (out of a maximum of five). Our Terminale students have also received great offers so far from École Polytechnique (Bachelor), The University of British Columbia (UBC)-Sciences Po, McGill University, University of Toronto, IE University, Maastricht University, Northeastern University, and Columbia University-Sciences Po. More offers are coming in every day! We are proud of each and every one of our graduating class members.
