ACS International Schools is seeking an experienced full time Teaching Assistant to join our Early Childhood team at ACS Cobham.
Overall Job Purpose:
- Assist the classroom teacher with the preparation and delivery of lessons
- To assist with the welfare of the Early Childhood children (ages 2-4).
Main Responsibilities
Administration:
- To be aware of and implement school philosophy, policies and procedures
- Help teachers with assessment
- Prepare and put up wall displays
- Help order and check stock
- Deliver attendance sheets/messages to the EC secretary.
Supervision:
- Morning duties include: meeting children who arrive by bus, escort children to class, supervising them at assembly points/in class, and helping with the morning set up in the classrooms
- End of day duties include: escorting children to and with boarding the buses, supervising children who are waiting
- Supervise children at lunch and recess
- Escort children to be seen by the Nurse and undertake minor first aid duties
- Accompany classes to and from specialised lessons and, in some instances, remain in class for these sessions.
Preparation:
- Classroom set up and tidying at the end of the day, and during pre and post planning, washing equipment and any other relevant tasks
- Setting up and tidying playground equipment
- Assist teacher with health and safety procedures for special needs children such as those with allergies
- Help maintain high standards of safety and hygiene with equipment and the environment
- Assist with toileting (following relevant guidelines for each grade).
Teaching and learning:
- Gather project resources
- Photocopy materials and preparing for class activities and projects
- With teacher’s direction, work with children in small and large groups and one to one
- Continue to grow and develop professionally
- Carry out reasonable additional duties as required to fulfil the needs of the organisation.
Professional Expertise:
- Sound understanding of child development 0 – 6
- Basic computer skills
- Experience working with 2-6 year olds.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Educated to NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) or above
- Relevant experience with children under 7 years.
Personal Qualities:
- Demonstrate appropriate initiative and flexibility
- Be able to communicate effectively, observing confidentiality as appropriate
- Exhibit enthusiasm for teaching
- Interact positively and respectfully with parents, teachers, staff and administration
- Demonstrate an ability to reflect own professional performance and impact on student learning
- Project a positive and professional ethos with a mature approach.
