This truly international education begins with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP) from Preschool to Year 5, Australia Curriculum for Years 6 to 8, Cambridge IGCSE in Years 9 and 10, and the Higher School Certificate (HSC) or International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP) for Years 11 and 12.

Position Objective

The four key objectives of an Early Years Classroom Teacher at AIS are as follows:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Professional Knowledge

Demonstrate through discussion and practice, and an understanding of:

  • The subject matter to be covered in all key learning areas
  • The use of a range of appropriate and innovative teaching practices to increase student learning outcomes
  • The components of curriculum design
  • The range of instructional resources available, including IBO and school-based curriculum and planning documentation
  • The way in which the learning environment contributes to student achievement
  • The importance of thorough yet flexible daily lesson planning and the clear documentation of such planning
  • The importance of knowing each child in order to differentiate learning to meet the specific needs of each student

Professional Practice

  • Assessment and Reporting
  • Demonstrate an understanding that the primary purpose of assessment is to support the achievement of all students by sharing knowledge about assessment with students, using a range and balance of informal and formal diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies and using assessment data
  • Planning and Implementation
  • Understand the principles of teaching for understanding, explicitly focusing on this by:
  • demonstrating how students best learn 
  • Supporting diversity
  • Utilising classroom management strategies
  • Professional Engagement 
  • Participating in and contributing to the School’s Professional Learning Community
  • Understand the importance of continuing to learn about learning, with the aim of improving student achievement through improving professional practice
  • Creating productive family partnerships

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum 4 year recognised teaching qualification including a Bachelor’s Degree and teaching diploma or a Bachelor in Education
  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience in any Early Years setting
  • Experience in an international school environment or international preschool would be an advantage
  • Team work, excellent communication skills and empathy
  • A willingness to participate in the wider school community is essential

AIS has continued to grow rapidly since it was founded in 1993, with the latest groundbreaking stage of development due to launch in 2017. The Early Learning Village opened in July 2017 and will provide learning capacity for 800 young learners aged 2 months to 6 years.

Population

AIS is a co-educational school for students from Infants (2 months) to Pre University (Year 12 – age 18+). The School is divided in to two three sub-schools; Early Years (Nursery to 4 year old Preschool), the Elementary School ( Prep to Year 5) and Secondary School (Year 6 – 12).  There are over 50 nationalities represented at the School.
 

Head of School

Mr Andre Casson brings 20 years’ international education experience to the School as the School’s Head of School.

Following a successful career as a Science Teacher and Academic Leader in assorted Independent schools in Western Australia, Andre was appointed to the inaugural position of Deputy Head of Senior School at Dulwich College in Shanghai.. At Dulwich Andre developed a passion for international education and an insight to the challenges confronted by students in a third culture setting. Moreover, he was able to engage with the IGCSE and IB Diploma Programme both as a teacher and manager. 

In 2010 Andre returned to Australia to commence the position as Deputy Head of Senior School at Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) in Brisbane. In 2012 Andre moved to Singapore to take up the position of Head of Secondary School and in January 2018 Andre assumed the role of Head of School.
 

School Leadership Team

The School Leadership Team exists to advise and assist the School Principal and the Heads of Early Years, Elementary School and Secondary School in the daily management of the Sub-Schools.
