Economics & Business Teacher (Senior School)

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate teacher of Economics & Business to join the Senior School teaching team for the new school year starting in September 2023.

Responsible for teaching Economics & Business to senior school pupils up to A-Level, the role will also involve working as a Form Tutor in our pastoral team and could include teaching classes in Key Stage 3. The successful candidate will have a recognised teaching qualification (ideally a B.Ed. and/or PGCE), and have had at least three years' teaching GCSEs and A Levels in a UK school or an international school environment.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality teaching, learning and curriculum development, across the Key Stages  
  • Create a stimulating class environment which promotes effective teaching and learning
  • Develop appropriate and differentiated schemes of work from Key Stage 4 and 5, ensuring that the aims and objectives for the teaching of Economics & Business are delivered    
  • Plan and prepare courses for assigned timetabled classes and groups, taking into consideration the differing educational needs of the pupils   
  • Monitor and track pupils’ achievements at regular intervals, subject to the instructions of the Head of Faculty or other senior colleagues  
  • Secure and sustain effective teaching of the subject, including evaluation of quality of teaching and standards of pupils’ achievements and setting targets for improvement  
  • Ensure the discipline and safety of all pupils in the assigned groups and classes
  • Keep up to date with subject development and take part in in-service training, where appropriate
  • Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for internal and external examinations
  • Make provision for students of differing ability in all subjects
  • Provide opportunities for the use of digital technology within the curriculum
  • Create a culture of achievement where students aspire to do their best
  • Perform the roles and responsibilities of a form tutor, working closely with the pastoral team to provide care and support for the well-being of the pupils
  • Take part in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum and organisation of the school, including supporting development and improvement plans
  • Participate in faculty and other meetings relating to the curriculum and organisation of the school
  • Consult and liaise with parents and attend meetings arranged for that purpose    
  • Participate in professional development and training as required    
  • Be involved in the development and delivery of extra-curricular activities and opportunities across the Key Stages
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the school
  • Identify appropriate resources for the subject and ensure they are used efficiently, effectively and safely, including off-site facilities and school residential trips
  • Develop and implement subject policies, plans, target, and practices within the context of the school's aims and policies
  • Participate in the break duty rota, as assigned
  • Undertake cover duties for colleagues, as assigned
  • Carry out such other duties as are necessary to meet the needs of the school and its pupils, as directed by the Head of Senior School and Principal
  • Be a champion for innovation and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach in the role

Person specification

Essential experience, skills and abilities

  • A recognised teaching qualification, for example, a PGCE or a BEd.    
  • At least three years’ experience in the UK (preferably), or experience teaching the British curriculum including GCSEs and A levels in an international school   
  • The desire to work in an international school environment
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Experience of teaching pupils with English as an additional language
  • The ability to work with a range of pupils at all levels
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm that inspires others
  • Positivity, perseverance, and a good sense of humour

Desirable experience, skills and abilities

  • Experience of teaching another subject at Key Stage 3
