Job overview

Basildon Education Partnership
'Many Schools One Vision'
Raising Aspirations, Expectations and Achievement for Basildon primary pupils

Closing date 24th June 2016
Interviews 1st July 2016

The Basildon Education Partnership (BEP) works with 26 primary schools in Basildon to support, challenge and improve primary education .

The solution (to school improvement) needs to be determined and driven locally, tailored to local circumstances and resources. It involves local self-evaluation, local objectives and local action plans. Schools take ownership of problems and reject the notion that they can do little themselves. Solutions are seen to be available from within the school partnership. The school partnership is not simply an amalgam of isolated schools but a collection of schools that need to collaborate in order to get better.
David Hargreaves

During the recent past Basildon schools have engaged in partnership working and collaborative support and challenge. This has resulted in substantial improvement to our schools and the achievement of our pupils. It has also shown how a partnership of schools, working with other key stakeholders, can bring about sustainable improvement in the educational climate, and outcomes for our youngsters.

Notable successes have been the recruitment of a national educational champion, Sir Mike Tomlinson, to chair the Basildon partnership, the across the board improvement of pupil achievement in SATs results, and the improvement in OfSTED judgements of Basildon Town schools.

The next phase is to put in place a longer term plan for the development of this programme so that stability, confidence and engagement can be maintained and used to drive the programme even further. At the beginning of this new phase for the organisation, we are looking for a Director of Education to continue the excellent work which has taken place over the past 30 months.

Our new Director of Education will continue to develop the conditions for BEP’s success, leading the work with schools, and developing relationships across the town and beyond. The Director will work with a Board of Trustees, and an Executive Panel made up of governors, headteachers and key stakeholders from the local area.

This is a great opportunity for someone with OfSTED experience to bring a deep understanding of how schools improve at pace, alongside the personal skills to influence, persuade and negotiate at the highest level.
