Novus deliver learning and skills in over 100 sites within Her Majesty`s Prisons, private sector prisons, Approved Premises and the community. Working closely with stakeholders, they aim to provide locally determined, high quality provision which meets the needs and interests of learners.
We are growing and as a result we have an exciting opportunity within Novus, for a self-driven and enthusiastic individual to join as an Education Manager within HMP Send. This is a very challenging yet rewarding role.

As directed by Operations / Regional Manager, to plan strategically for the development of the provision within the establishment, in line with the OL strategy. Meet the establishment`s contract, quality and financial targets, in line with TMC policies and procedures. Proactively manage partnership relationships with stakeholders.

The assessment day is on Tuesday 25th October 2016.

Key responsibilities (but not limited to) are as follows:

  • Cost effective planning of contractual requirements within the establishment.
  • Deliver highest quality educational services in line with OL strategy and with sector best practice.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of learners
  • Achieve budget targets by effective planning, monitoring and reporting processes.
  • Recruit, develop and retain a highly skilled, flexible, qualified and experienced delivery team to meet business requirements and the needs of the learners.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with all stakeholders. Proactively manage and resolve issues that may arise in a timely manner.
  • In liaison with Regional HR Advisor, ensure that employee relations are managed in line with College policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with TMC and partners` health, safety and security requirements. Ensure breaches are dealt with in line with contractual agreements and in line with College policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all funding and compliance activity.
  • Proactively contribute to the Regional meetings and planning processes. 
  • Teach designated hours as required, with a flexible approach to delivering across curriculum areas as needed to fulfil contractual requirements
  • Ensure compliance with prison security requirements

As a successful candidate you will have:

  • Teaching qualification - minimum Cert Ed or PGCE
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Track record of developing, leading and managing a team effectively
  • Track record of managing staff including the deployment of those staff and appropriate delegation of tasks
  • Track record of implementing and managing continuous quality assurance and improvement procedures
  • Track record of successful partnership working 
  • Track record of effectively managing a budget
  • Track record of successful problem solving
  • Track record of managing and operating computer-based and paper-based administrative systems

Values and Vision

Owing to its size, Manchester College is able to offer a huge range of courses at many different academic levels. This includes GCSEs for school leavers looking to do retakes, all the way up to full BA and BSc degrees. Foundation Degrees are also offered, along with short courses. A large number of part-time learners attend the college, and as such these courses are designed to be a flexible as possible in order to be accessible to adults who intend to work while studying.
