Description

The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and highly motivated personnel for the position of Education Officer: Student Support (Upper Hunter Region Schools) on a Permanent Part-Time basis (0.5FTE).

The Education Officer provides support to six schools in the Upper Hunter Region (St. Joseph’s PS Merriwa, St. Joseph’s PS Denman, St. Joseph’s HS Aberdeen, St. James’ PS Muswellbrook, St. Mary’s PS Scone, St. Catherine’s Catholic College Singleton.)


Position Requirements

As a member of the Student Support Unit, within Teaching and Learning Services, the Education Officer: Student Support (Upper Hunter Region Schools) will assist staff in schools to build their capacity to meet the needs of students (K-12) with disabilities and additional needs.

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has an abiding commitment to promote the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults - particularly those who participate in the life of the Diocese. All employees are required to undergo a National Police Check and, where legislated, hold a Working with Children Check. Diocesan workers are expected to personally adopt and enact the Diocese’s Safeguarding Commitment Statement.


Essential Criteria

• A clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and the ethos of Catholic schools;

• Teaching qualifications plus post-graduate qualifications in special education;

• A comprehensive understanding of relevant educational issues, good pedagogy, and best practice in special education;

• Extensive experience in special education K-12 inclusive of identification and assessment processes, differentiation, behaviour support, and personalised learning, and collaborative planning;

• Experience in delivery of staff training and professional development;

• Experience in supporting schools and students at key transition times;

• A working knowledge of the Disability Discrimination Act and Disability Standards for Education and their implications for schools

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within CSO and school settings;

• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team;

• Sound interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.


The applicant must provide evidence of the following:

• Qualifications as a four year trained teacher;

• Current NESA Accreditation;

• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)number.


Commencement: 20/01/21

Conditions of Employment: Conditions and salary commensurate with the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Schools Office Employees Enterprise Agreement 2017 - Education and Professional Officers salary scale 3.3.
