Toowoomba Catholic Schools (TCS) is a system of 31 primary, secondary, and P-12 schools located in Toowoomba, and across the Darling Downs and South West Queensland.

TCS is seeking a specialist in early years literacy teaching practices as part of the Teaching and Learning Directorate (TLD) Strategy.

The Role

You will work collaboratively, as part of the TLD, to develop and implement a strategy to raise student standards in literacy by focusing on student thinking and learning, and on explicit teaching. The main focus of this strategy is to improve literacy pedagogy through regular and ongoing teacher development to build a significant and sustainable improvement in the learning outcomes of students. The role will also see you focus on the continuation of the Reading Improvement Strategy - Prep to Year 4 and support schools to provide specialised advice and professional support.

Your Experience


  • relevant tertiary qualification in education or a related field or a minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching or 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • hold, or be eligible to hold, registration as a teacher in Queensland
  • effective relationship building and influencing skills
  • demonstrated experience working with the Microsoft suite of products
  • advanced interpersonal and communication skills
  • empathy with the values and ethos of the Catholic faith


  • coaching and/or Leadership experience in an educational setting
  • interest and/or experience in Literacy in the Early Years strategies
