Education Welfare Officer

The Write Time has quickly established itself as a leading specialist mentoring and education organisation working with vulnerable people of all ages to ensure each person referred to our services achieves their full potential in both an educational and personal sense, with the use of Choice Theory. The Write Time has multiple facets to the business; a small independent school arm (max. capacity of 32 students) that was recently commended by Ofsted for its quality of provision for the wellbeing of young people; a Traineeship programme for young people aged 16-24, helping them to get into education, employment or training; and a Women’s project helping the long-term unemployed and economically inactive BAME women in South London with a plethora of initiatives. In the past, we have worked with over 750 students across 12 schools in 7 boroughs, and currently The Write Time is now exploring offering tuition services; a stronger family support network; and additional support for young people being excluded from mainstream environments. 

We are specifically looking for an Education Welfare Officer for our independent school, with a strong background in supporting and counselling families. The role is suited for someone hoping to make a positive impact on the lives of young people, and families through resolving attendance issues, and offering practical help and emotional support and who may be experiencing short or long-term difficulties. The ideal candidate also needs to be comfortable working with children who have a variety of complex SEN needs (behavioural issues, SEMH, dyslexia, ASD, ADHD etc.) and come from challenging personal backgrounds. 

Do you have what it takes to join The Write Time? 

In order to apply for this, post you will need: -

• A minimum of a Level 2 qualification/Grade C in English Language & Mathematics
• A degree in social work or social sciences or equivalent in childcare, counselling, youth work, or education 
• A minimum of 1 years’ experience working with children who have complex SEN needs and their families in a school environment 
• Experience working with young people and their families in places including but not limited to: children’s homes, nurseries, family refuge centres, probation services, family community centres, mental health services, and youth projects 
• To be experienced and talented working with challenging young people from a variety of backgrounds, and to have a track record of success in engaging this client group to achieve positive destinations
• To be a strong user of ICT-based software including MacOS 
• To be a competent coordinator and motivator 
• To be dynamic, creative, energetic, positive, and willing to communicate ideas appropriately
