An exceptional school: Our vision is a world class education for young people in Newham. Lister is an 11-16 comprehensive school at the heart of its community. Recognised as one of the most improved schools in the country (DfE, January 2014) this is reflected in our sustained drive to become an Outstanding school with our Progress 8 at +0.27 and our Progress 8 for disadvantaged students in the top 20% of all schools nationally.
In our December 2018 Ofsted the inspectors found that the school has maintained the good quality of education and ‘made strong progress in many aspects of the school’s provision‘ since our last inspection in September 2013. Our many strengths are highlighted, including how students are ‘courteous and articulate’ and ‘say they enjoy school and value the wide range of opportunities they are given’. We are very proud that the report recognises our high aspirations, the hard work and good behaviour of our students, and the dedication and commitment of our staff.
“Overall GCSE outcomes for pupils over the last three years have been consistently above national averages. Disadvantaged pupils make strong progress in line with their peers...behaviour and conduct of the pupils was very good. Pupils were courteous, articulate and willing to speak with inspectors...Pupils said that they enjoy school and value the wide range of opportunities they are given and talk warmly about the inclusive nature of the school...The school has a well-led hearing-impaired support department...progress of pupils with SEND was good because activities were planned to meet their needs. This was particularly evident for hearing-impaired pupils.” Ofsted December 2018.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This appointment will be conditional on successful pre-employment and enhanced DBS checks.
