Job overview
We need an Educator with funny bones!
About us
Bright Little Labs is building a kids' media giant for the 21st Century. We make kids’ books, games, and products that promote critical thinking, computer science and equality. Our flagship kids story is about Detective Dot - an 11-year-old coder who is on a dangerous mission from the CIA (Children’s Intelligence Agency). We started on Kickstarter, reached 30 countries, got Cabinet Office backing, and have won a few awards. Next up: we’re launching in 22,000 schools, writing the first of 3 books with a not-yet-announced
publisher, and we just partnered with Turner (who own Cartoon Network) so we’re making cartoons too.
What we’re looking for
We need an Educator to help us develop exciting (never-been-done-before type of exciting) curriculum that teaches kids computer science, creativity and critical thinking skills for the 21st Century.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: Our character - Detective Dot - is a third-generation British Indian girl. We want to work with people who believe in authentic character creation and we’re actively looking to work with people with lived experience of our characters and her family.
THIS IS ALSO IMPORTANT: If you’re amazing and have no formal experience, please apply!
You will:
- Develop new curriculum for the CIA (Children’s Intelligence Agency), including creating missions and a training programme. We’re focused on 21st Century Skills - computer science, critical thinking, creativity, communication, empathy, survival skills etc for kids growing up with fake news, drones, artificial intelligence and self-driving everythings.
- Create lesson plans and resources for parents to compliment our stuff. Make education feel like a game or story.
- Brainstorm and create educational activities across our transmedia platforms.
- Review everything we make (books, cartoons, games and curriculum materials) and make sure it’s pedagogically sound.
- Create a way to test whether our story-led approach to 21st century skill works, developing partnerships with research institutions and our own internal systems to measure changes in competency or attitudes
- Share our findings with everyone: sharing is caring.
- Get feedback from users and constantly iterate and improve our stuff
About you
- 3-5 years’ experience teaching kids aged 6-11 all things computer science, coding and creative thinking - but if you’ve been teaching early high-schoolers, that’s good too.
- Part-timer? We’d prefer it if you worked part-time in a school, so we stay connected to the people we are serving. We’re flexible though, so no worries if this isn’t possible.
- Passion for tech. You are big kid and a tech-fiend, who loves cartoons, games and toys. You understand the fundamentals of digital literacy and STEM problem solving - plus you’re across the latest developments in gadgetry.
- Edutaining tone of voice. You are inspirational, funny and into fart jokes.
- Commitment to diversity. You want to create a fairer world by making stuff that reflects diverse identities and experiences.
- Active networks. You have wide ties to the education community - teachers, parents, tweeters
We offer
- Flexibility - this might be a contract role, a part-time role or something else. We care about providing flexible working arrangements - mums, dads, and pregnant people, please apply.
- An awesome role helping to define the future of a very exciting brand that promotes diversity.
- Exposure - we’re a high-ish profile project and we work with exciting people
Start date is flexible but ideally ASAP in our cosy office in Old Street.
Apply ASAP via this link
Please apply ASAP as the role might be filled before the closing date. Keep your covering email short +
