Founded in 1525, Sedbergh School is set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and offers endless opportunities for outdoor activities – from a walk in the hills to mountain biking, sailing or caving.

Each July the school opens its doors to Sedbergh International Summer School, which invites students from around the world to explore new environments, make international friends and take on challenges they haven’t yet faced, while being supported by a range of experienced and dedicated academic, pastoral and activities staff. Sedbergh ISS is dedicated to developing students’ SPIRIT (self-motivation, perseverance, independence, resilience, imagination and teamwork), and all staff members embody these characteristics.

Sedbergh ISS remains a close-knit community within the broader Sedbergh School family, and staff will be supported by a Senior Leadership Team and Designated Safeguarding Lead. We pride ourselves on getting to know each individual student and candidates will be able to build rapport with a range of students quickly.

Sedbergh ISS is seeking to appoint suitably-qualified, talented teachers to plan and execute high-quality English lessons for pupils aged 8 to 16 years old, in line with and supported by the ISS curriculum. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic addition to the team, as keen to get involved in the excursions and activities as they are to deliver engaging English lessons to multi-lingual, mixed ability classes. Some pastoral duties will be expected on a rotational basis. We expect all our staff to operate in a professional manner at all times, whether on site or out on excursion.

The benefits for teachers on the course include getting involved in a range of activities and excursions, excellent opportunities to explore the Lake District and beyond, working with the same level/group of students for the duration of the course as far as possible, as well as support from a DOS and ADOS, who will guide teachers through the tailor-made curriculum they have mapped out for the summer course.

About Sedbergh School

The magnificent location of Sedbergh means pupils can enjoy school life in a safe, healthy and dynamic environment. The opportunities for outdoor activities are almost unlimited - from a walk in the hills to mountain biking, or the calm of fishing to the challenge of caving. While academic study is central for every pupil the experiences of a Sedberghian are not confined to the classroom .

Sedbergh is a School where pupils are presented  with a huge range of opportunity. It is a School which expects its pupils to seize the opportunity or, better, create the opportunity. It is our firm belief that it is much better to try something and fail rather than avoiding something because of the fear of failing. This culture ultimately breeds a positive attitude and greatly increases the likelihood of success.
