Position Title: Elementary School Learning Support Teacher
Reports To: Elementary School Principal
Position Overview
The school is seeking a dedicated and skilled Elementary School Learning Support Teacher to provide targeted academic and social-emotional support within the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The successful candidate will foster student growth through differentiated instruction, inclusive teaching practices, and collaboration with classroom and specialist teachers.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support
• Work with students individually and in small groups to strengthen academic skills and address learning challenges.
• Design and implement Individual Student Support Plans (ISSP) tailored to each student’s needs.
• Use differentiated instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning styles and abilities of students.
• Integrate engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote critical thinking, creativity, and inclusion.
Collaboration and Integration
• Partner with homeroom and specialist teachers to create an inclusive learning environment aligned with the IB PYP.
• Communicate regularly with parents and colleagues to support student learning and progress.
• Contribute to planning and coordination of school-wide events that enhance the learning experience and school community.
Assessment and Monitoring
• Conduct formative and summative assessments to monitor and evaluate student progress.
• Maintain detailed records of student development and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
• Provide timely feedback to students and parents and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
Professional Development
• Stay current with educational research and best practices related to the IB PYP and inclusive teaching.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and school-wide learning communities.
• Engage in collaborative team meetings to enhance instructional strategies and student outcomes.
Classroom Environment and Safety
• Create a classroom atmosphere that reflects the IB PYP principles, supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of students during classes, breaks, and school activities.
• Implement strategies that promote social-emotional learning and resilience.
Communication and Engagement
• Maintain effective communication with parents, staff, and administrators to foster collaboration.
• Prepare informative updates and newsletters for parents and the school community.
• Promote a positive and supportive classroom culture that encourages student engagement.
Additional Duties
• Supervise at least two after-school sports, clubs, or activities.
• Assist with school-day duties, including break and lunchtime supervision.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Education is preferred.
• Teaching diploma, certificate, or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of three years teaching experience, preferably in an IB PYP setting.
• Strong understanding of the IB PYP framework and inclusive education practices.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners.
